I received an older aquarium; however I cannot get the light to work. I put in a new condenser/starter, bulb and replaced the switch. When I put a meter on the canopy I have 120 volts coming in but only 60 coming out of the ballast/transformer. The ballast tags is “Robertson transformer Company U.S.A.”. I am assuming I need at find a replacement that is for 120 volts and 8 watts (uses 12 inch T5 fluorescent bulbs).

Does anyone know where to find appropriate replacement ballast?

I have looked at the pet stores in Lethbridge, as well as hardware stores and Canadian Tire and have not found anything. I have not found ballast or even a similar canopy - a red 13.5 inch square plastic which sits on a rectangular 10 gallon aquarium. Pert store did not recognize the make (no markings or labels on anything) and did not have anything similar in their catalogues.

My next option if I can’t track down a ballast or canopy would be to wire in a new light system. Has anyone done this? If so any suggestions on which kind of lighting I might consider.

Brite-Lite can get just about anything. They're not in Lethbridge, but they are in Calgary and have an online store at their website.

Hope that helps a little.

I have picked up a couple of needed ballasts at prolighting.com recently. I am not sure whether they ship to Canada but their prices are very reasonable and the quality of the products seems to be good.
