Stress - Its Role in Fish Disease
This (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=882) is an excellent article by Ruth Francis-Floyd of the University of Florida IFAS Extension on stress and it's role in fish disease. Although it is written mainly for tropical fish farms, it applies equally to the fish in the tanks of hobbyists. It discusses the various causes and effects of stress in tropical fish and the role stress plays in disease.
It also discusses how to prevent stress through
water quality and oxygen levels
high quality diet supplemented by fresh vegetables and live food
removal of debris from tanks
disinfecting equipment used (nets, etc.)I think all to often things that cause stress and its potential negative effects on fish health are overlooked.
