A lot of great artists have put out Christmas albums,
one of my faves is still a "Boney M Christmas".

I missed "Trans Siberian Orchestra" when in town recently,
but those guys are well worth a listen.

I'd like to get some new Christmas tunes this year,
what are some of your faves?

Usually anything by Bing Crosby fillst the bill. It reminds me of home which is kinda corny.
I too missed the 'Trans Siberian Orchestra' when they were in Toronto, sorry to hear you missed them too! :frown:

As corny as it sounds, I still like the classics. The Time-Life Treasury of Christmas was always my favourite as a kid.

Gramma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

I guess it's a matter of what I grew up with. Burl Ives "Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer" album is good. I have a Mormon Tabernacle Choir record, that I would love to find on CD but so far no luck.

All the songs off of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Brings back memories of home. We used to watch it every Christmas eve and then off to bed. I really miss that. When Steph was a kid it was never on on Christmas eve. We do still watch it but way earlier. So I started a new family tradition and read her "Twas the Night" after she was tucked in for the night. Until she got too old.

I had to thank you for posting your song list Jay.
There are a couple of titles I didn't recognize, and will have too look them up.

Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Elvis are three that stand out in my memory, and still recall the first time I heard a full congregation sing carols.

Joy to the World and The First Noel are two that really stand out from that night.

Those three had incredible voices. It was sad to lose them but they left us with some incredibly beautiful music.

If you're wondering about "This Season Will Never Grow Old", it's by Canada's very own Rita McNeil.

I do prefer the classics that have been mentioned but for a new "classic" I don't think you can beat Alabama's "Thistle Hair the Christmas Bear". :Teddy:  :waycool:

Thanks again VS, i'll have to check that one out.

While I was searching "Six White Boomers" the other day, came across some Christmas albums that were put out by some "classic" rock bands including-

Jethro Tull
Moody Blues
Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Canned Heat
And even Jimi Hendrix.::D:

There are a couple of various artist compilations that include the likes of-
Edie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Edgar Winter, Pat Benatar, Christine McVie, Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde.

That time of the year again.

Oddly enough, the last artist's name mentioned, ties into Black Label Society's new Christmas album.

Wow, seriously just posted tonight on FB that my youngest (14) asked to play Christmas music tonight (for the first time since he became cool) and when asked, The Elvis Christmas Album...a 4 generation family staple.

Other music includes Harry Connick Jr, multiple artist albums, David Foster.

My own favourites include the aforesaid mentioned Bing Crosby/David Bowie, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Eartha Kitt (WAAAAY better than Madoonie) and BB King. Also some death metal stuff that I don't listen to in public. :)

For anyone who likes a bit of a folk-rock sound, one of my all-time favourite xmas albums is Bruce Cockburn's Christmas. Another with more of an old-time folk sound is Pete Seeger Sings Traditional Christmas Carols.

A great kind of alt-rock xmas album (I'm terrible at categorizing music, but I guess that's what you might call it?) is Crash Test Dummies, The First Noel. The lead singer has that dark, deep gravelly voice. (Remember Crash Test Dummies? Their big hit was the Superman Song, with the line, "Superman never made any money saving the world from Solomon Grundy. Sometimes I declare the world will never see another man like him." Remember?)

For the novelty value alone, I love my Jimi Hendrix Christmas EP...just has 2 or 3 songs, but you get to see a picture of Jimi Hendrix in a Santa hat and beard. (Google that.)

I know a lot of people hated it, but I loved the Bob Dylan xmas album that came out a year or two ago. I thought it was a ton of fun. As a grade one teacher, the video for "Must Be Santa" (a Raffi song, I believe, completely redone in a whole different direction) made me laugh!

Speaking of kids music, I like the Muppets album of xmas songs done with John Denver. Now a classic, in my view.

Tons more that I could list, but those are the first that came to mind, off the top of my head.

I love them all (except the rappers who totally destroy the songs for me). I still like the classics. Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Andy Williams and Burl Ives are still a staple for me Along with the Very Special Christmas set. Mrs pyro likes Harry Connick Jr, Bon Jovi, and the Breakfast Television Christmas CD.
Altogether, a great mix of old and new!

That's ok...to each his (or her) own! I love Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and even Stompin' Tom Connors, though I know there are people who think none of those guys can sing. :)

Andrea Bocelli has a couple of beautiful christmas songs. I like trans Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller. O Holy Night by John Berry is another favorite of my mother and I.

I've got a huge respect for Johnny Cash. But I'll admit, his vocal ability went down hill with age.

Yes, but at least that reflected his health. My dad loved Johnny Cash but my mother...let's just say she's not such a big fan! In his prime, she would have thought the same of him. I love him, though!!

Yes I had Goofy Greats. Don't know if it was that year though, but I do remember that song. I believe it was called the "Name Game". It also had Purple People Eater, Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, and some song about a cave man.

That reminds me of one I left off my list: Tom Jackson's The Huron Carol. Great album!

First time I heard the Huron Carol was in in grade 1 or 2 when I was in a Christmas play at school. I have always loved that carol, and it's Canadian too, eh.

Anyone living in the lower mainland of BC can satisfy their craving for Christmas music any time of day. QM FM (103.5) has been playing Christmas musci 24/7 since the beginning of December.
