I noticed in an auction that I participated in that the reserve bid was not met.... why have a hidden reserve / shouldnt it be transparent so that the bidders are not wasting their time? I would suggest that reserves shouldnt be allowed in this type of auction instead just listed as buy now.............. and listed in the buy and sell.... it takes away from the spirit of a real auction / maybe bidding could be started at the sellers minimum taking price to be fair on both ends / buyer and seller
Seller that have no Auction item just a buy now item should be listed in the buy and sell listings......
one other point....should there not be a notice that a person didnt win the auction and that is completed... from what I notice it just vannishess from the board...
Just curious
Happy Hollidays everyone and the best to you all in the New Year

To answer your first question reserve prices are a normal part of auctions. Setting a minimum bid lower than the reserve price usually gets bidding started because often people are less inclined to bid if they feel the starting price is too high, but once bidding will bid higher if they really want the item.
We chose not have Buy and Sell Classifieds here on the forum. Listings in the forum format wouldn't have been feasible for long in a Canada-wide forum and all types of selling are accommodated on the auction as is the ability to view the seller’s rating right in the listing and easily (with one click) review his/her actual feedback when considering a purchase, so that's the route we went with.
Any item with a “Buy It” next to it can be purchased outright. Any item listed 'for sale only' will not have an option to bid, just the option to buy it.
If you do not wish to spend time bidding or want to ensure you obtain the item and an auction has a "Buy It" opotion, you can simply purchase the item outright. However, once bidding has begun, the option to purchase the item outright is no longer available.
Regarding notification at the end of an auction, on-line auctions do not notify bidders that they did not win an auction. This would simply not be feasible due to sheer volume. Only winning bidders are notified if they have won the auction. If you are bidding on an auction, simply make note of the date and time it closes (listed on each auction). If you have not bid and something suddenly disappears before the scheduled close, it was obviously purchased outright. As for the auction listing just vanishing when it is complete, this is normal for any auction as the item is no longer available.
I hope this has clarified things a little for you.

I understand about the reserve... no problem as I would want at least a minimum price that is fair as well for goods that I post....
I just think it would be more in the spirit of an auction if the minimum was the starting bid..... up front / In the auction that I was involved in I started the bidding and ended the bidding... there was no incentive for me to bid higher other then to hit the buy now ( why do that its an auction) ! my bid just went up once another bidder started to bid and ended there... my bid did not get increased after that point..
Hope I am not sounding out of line here.... it is not my intention / just an observation and as a bidder letting you know how I look at this...
Great Forum and nice people................
Seasons greetings and lets make this the best fishy year ever

Hi Jerry, great to hear from you. First, it's not an auction, it's a classifieds & auction, so things are a bit different.
It's standard and can be annoying when you're the bidder I agree, but it's entirely up to the seller if the reserve is on an item and I try to avoid it for that reason. It won't be an issue so much as the auction grows and there are more bidders.
I often wondered why it wouldn't bump my bid up when it could do so and meet the reserve when I've used other auctions - limitation of the software guess. I encountered it on eBay. I don't remember if they notified me that I didn't meet the reserve or not, but it doesn't really matter after the fact anyway. I suppose there would be those who wouldn't want it to bump them up and then you'd have another issue.
Auction software is purchased as is and I'm not sure what's optional and what isn't. Sometimes these features are integrated and you can end up in a fine mess without them. I'm betting we'd have as many sellers complaining that the feature isn't there if we removed it too...lol...can't please everyone I guess.
I'm just happy that I don't have to deal with ad's all over the place, pop-ups or fees, so I can tolerate the little things no prob  . We also don't go around asking for donations for the paid software we use, nor do we dream up fancy forum features to charge for, resulting in a divided membership. We're not making any money here, we're trying to help the hobby by providing a nice place to deal. We get the same in return - that's it, that's all.
Is there anything more annoying than having a pop-up ask me if I want to use Skype everytime single time I look at an auction on eBay? Even Aquabid has pop-ups that pop-up software doesn't work on - how these sites figure that annoying their visitors is going to get them sales, I do not know.

Totally understandable / Melody you have a way with your words girl !
I knew what the outcome would be when the reserve wasnt met.. just thought i would point out how anoying it is.... to me anyways LOL
I have noticed on other auction sites that there is a starting bid on the item.... but I never thought of the software etc..... it is what it is.... and you wont hear another peep from me on this issue again.....
Have a Happy New Year

It works everytime - it's a woman thing. Go on and on and on until the guy doesn't care anymore, as long as she shuts up about it.
