Snails are often the janitors of our tanks but in the darkness at great depths of the ocean at temps of 4 Celcius, giant isopods (approx. 12 inches long) which resemble wood lice tackle the job.
9 have been collected and are in quarantine at the moment but will go on display in a special tank "fitted with reflective glass that keeps it dark inside but allows people to look in" at the Sea Life Centre in Blackpool, UK.
