I am looking for a wooden canopy for my 33G tank (36" x 12"). The colour doesn't really matter but black would be preferable. Needs to have a hinged top and be open at the back to accomodate HOB filters. Please let me know if you have one for sale.

Why not just build one? They are relatively easy. In fact, if you want to draw out what you want on paper with all dimensions, you might be able to convince me to fab one up for you. (wouldn't take much convincing) All I would ask is that you keep your eyes out for some plants, (the missus is looking for some particular kinds in the swap section) and we'll swap parts/labour for plants.;)

cheers. Bill

I live in an apartment so I have no space plus I also don't have the tools so building it myself would take too much work.

What I'm thinking is something like this: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_canopy2.php. Probably in 3/4" plywood which I would paint flat black to match my stand. Except I don't want the hinge at the back. I want the top to be hinged in the middle so that when you flip the top back, the front half will flip back and rest on the back half. My light strip would rest on the glass top underneath and my moonlight strips would be attached to the underside of the canopy.

How much do you think the materials would cost? I could definitely trade some plants for the labour. I have a small Anubias var. nana, some small vals and apparently the foreground plant in my 30G is Cryptocoryne parva.

The only other peice of info I need is how high the canopy is, (how much room between top of tank and toplid of canopy) and how much lip you want around tank. You will want to cover the top tank frame, so you can't see it.

I have some 3/4 inch, good one side ply at work for my 300g Plywood tank, and I'll be able to use my offcuts to build the canopy. As for how much? I'll let you decide how many plants you want to pay for it. I'm in it for the love of the game, not the money!

Sounds like we have ourselves a deal. I'll get some measurements and PM you the details when I get home from work tonight.

My camera is on the fritz, but I bought a disposable camera. As soon as I get the photos developed I'll be sure to post a DIY on how to build one.

The canopy is ready, whenever you are G.P.B!
