I bought these 2 marbles from a guy in Edmonton. His wife brought them down for me. I think they are pretty little things. Put them in with the rainbows and apisto's for now. Don't worry guys, the rainbows are a little on the large side for the angels to eat

Thanks. I don't really have any marbles that looked like these guys, so they will be a very nice addition with my others. I am thinking now that I have 6 angels in total, I am going to have to buy a larger tank for sure

I have 19 tanks running right now  I want to increase the sizes of some tanks so that I can merge fish and decrease my number of tanks.

Waterchanges getting the better of you, are they? I don't think I want to know how long it takes you to do 19 tanks. :swoon:

I'm partial to the darker colours and would love to get some blacks eventually.
Wow 19 tanks ! Well you're in the right spot.
Only fishy geeks would understand.

Are your tanks spread out throughout the house or are they all in one room like a fish room? Have youy ever thought about doing a setup like blainep's fish room?

Yes, 19 tanks spread out all over my house. Problem I face is I live in an upstairs suite, so I really cannot put all the tanks into one room. I basically have 2 fishrooms, one being my supposed dining room with about half the tanks, then my spare bedroom has another 5 tanks, my bedroom has 3, my kids bedroom has 1, and my living room has 2.
I also service aquariums for a living, so I am doing wc's 7 days a week. It typically takes me 3 hours saturday night and 3 hours sunday night to clean all of my tanks, even longer if I am doing filters as well :wideeyed: Which is one reason the glass doesn't always get cleaned on my tanks :twitcy: As long as my fishies are fed and water is clean, that's all that matters. I am trying to get another large tank to combine some of the smaller one's into one large one. But once I get rid of some of my 20's I will be going out and buying several 5 gallons to house killi's. It just doesn't stop

 Yep totally.
I really like the dark colored angels as well. I have one pure black angel, so I am hoping once these guys grow up someone will pair off with her and I can create some nice dark marbelled.

If you haven't read it already, you'll find detailed information on Angelfish genetics here (http://theangelfishsociety.org/genetics.htm). Dr. Norton is a legend and I greatly admire her work.

Let me know when you break down your twenties. I'd be glad to buy a couple from ya if they are going to up for sale. I am going to be making a trip to Calgary for poker and to watch Russell Peters LIVE in June.

"It typically takes me 3 hours saturday night and 3 hours sunday night to clean all of my tanks, even longer if I am doing filters as well"
I had to do all of my tanks in one shot today, as I had the flu starting last weekend and running until, I dunno, next April. A lot of the stuff I keep looks poorly on missed water changes. I know I have an incredible luxury with my garage full of tanks, but it took 4 hours for my 1300 gallon set-up. If you can get all the tanks in one room, everything is so simplified.
I'm not writing this to be a pain, but it does show that multiple tank set-ups, even without central filtration, need not be time eaters.

Sorry to hear you have the flu Gary. Some of these things can hang on for an eternity.
As for waterchanges, even though you do have all those tanks in one place it still amazes me how many gallons you can deal with in 4 hours in that it takes me at least 2 hours to do 150g (longer if I do filters at the same time). You obviously have it down to a set routine.

It's all in the outlet hose. When I use the python to empty my two tanks not in the room, I drain to a toilet. They take as much time as 10 fishroom tanks.
I use a two inch plastic hose, the semi-rigid black type meant for a sump exit. It attaches to a bulkhead fitting 8 inches above the ground on a 20 gallon plastic tub. The tub has a second bulkhead 5 inches up its side, that exits to the floor drain. A siphon hose takes water from the tank into the plastic hose at high volume. It goes into the reservoir on the floor, with the stray java moss etc, settling and not clogging the drain. As it fills the lower part of the reservoir, it overflows into the exit and away.
Emptying all the tanks takes no time. Yesterday, I was listening to old sixties Jamaican ska while I worked, and I was emptying 25% on two 20 gallon tanks per three minute tune. It's refilling that's slower, and that's where I lose my time.
When I used buckets back in the day, it was slow. The python was a great advance, but this system is even better. I enjoy having my tanks all done, and I don't mind doing them, but this gives me more time for enjoyment.
The other luxury is set-up. Think of how much water changing time is actually setting up the gear.
As well, in DIY, I showed how I made top of the tank box filters for the fishroom. They have turned out to be great labour savers as they take moments to clean. The hours I have spent battling cannister filters when I could have been enjoying myself - I hate cannister filters.

I can see how using a large drain hose really helps. With me I have gone from buckets to python to pumping out water with a maxi-jet 600 (160gph) via a 1/2 inch hose to the toilet and using my pyhon hose to fill one tank as the next one empties. So it has speeded things up (but it's still slow) and as you say setting things up takes the time. Of course, time is added every second waterchange when I gravel vac about 5 gallons into buckets from each tank and pump the rest out. I use HOB filters which require rinsing out the media and a proper cleaning with brush every so often (impeller, etc.). Those DIY box filters (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4025) you made in the fishroom would definitely speed things up to.
All this means more time to enjoy your fish.

Firestorm, how are the new angels doing? Settling in nicely, I hope.

If I can find a whole house to either rent or buy, I will definitely be making the basement into an all in one fish room. Probably have 1 or 2 tanks upstairs. But because of being in an upstairs suite I really have to consider how much the floor can hold. But I do try to put as many tanks into each room as possible. I use a python for my larger tanks, and for my smaller tanks with small fish or fry I am very careful so I use a gravel vac and buckets.
I can't believe you hate canisters Gary, I love em. I think they are easier to haul out and clean than the AC's I have on some tanks. Hope you feel better too.
Tiger, once I do empty out some 20's I will keep you in mind. Probably will only want $15 for each since they are not in perfect condition. But they still hold water and do the trick if using for grow outs or QT tanks.
Jay my angels have settled in nicely. I am actually trading a bunch of my african cichlids to some guy in exchange for a 90 gallon tank and stand. So I am hoping to get some tanks moved around so I can place this one in my bdrm against a load bearing wall, then I want to set it up for my 6 angels and rainbows. I need to search for a pressurized CO2 system I think so that I can use pressurized instead of yeast on the 90. Then I can shut down a couple of my smaller tanks for sure

Lots of plans in the works.... organizing, and reorganizing... somehow I think that's a familiar scenerio for many of us. And yes, I'm with you, even if I had a fishroom, I'd still have a couple of tanks in my living area... it's definitely relaxing just to sit an watch them.

Don't even say the word organize to me, I am so disorganized it's not even funny. Probably take me months to even get myself as organized as I would like now that my fish take up all my spare time. Is it just me or once you really get into this hobby, you seem to not have much time for anything else other than fish?

Wow really, I had one that looked exactly the same as these about 10 years ago. I gave him away when I shut down my tank... Beautiful fish, by the way.
