After having read the thread Fave Dog Breeds of 2006 (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=559), I thought maybe we should have our own poll as to which breeds are our favorites. We can't possibly list them all so I've kept it to the ones which ranked in the top 10 in Canada, the US and the UK.

I realize this will leave out some of your favorite breeds (mine too... I love Basset Hounds but they didn't make the top 10.)

So vote for your favorites. You can choose more than one!

My ultimate fave breed is the Irish Wolfhound but since they are very hard to find and suffer many health problems due to their size I will never have one. Then it's Rotties, Mastiffs and Staffies.

Well, this is two years later and the according to the American Kennel Club (http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=3709) the Labrador retriever still holds (for the 18th year)top spot in the US. Here is their list of 2008 American favorite dogs:

Labrador Retriever
Yorkshire Terrier
German Shepherd Dog
Golden Retriever
Beagle
Boxer
Dachshund
Bulldog
Poodle
Shih TzuThe newest addtion to the Top 10 favorites in the US is the Dachshund.

For those of you who weren't around when we first ran the poll, here's your chance to vote for your favorite dog.

MY personal favourite is the Heinz 57. Anything else is just too pretentious for me. Both of my dogs fit the bill. One has some shepherd and some boxer in him and the other has some shepherd and some laborador retriever in her. Both are a delight and do not suffer the trials of "pure bred" dogs.

For me, Giant Schnauzers are the best, followed by Standard Schnauzers, GSD, then Goldens.

Phew that was a tough poll. I checked off pretty much all of them:Smile: .
Have to add the Border Collie to the list though. The one type of dog that hasen't been ruined by breeders.

I had to vote for a couple myself. Although I've never owned one, Boxers have long been a fave. I've had the pleasure of sharing life with 5 different dogs, (three of which were purebreds). In my experience, the mixed breeds seem more well rounded.

Oldman, that Boxer/Shepherd must be quite handsome.
