Hello:

New to forum, Have had 29 gallown FOWLR tank for over five years. Have had 2 true percula clownfish in tank for almost 5 years, bought them when they were approximately 1 year old. Fish and tank have been consistently healthy for 5 years. Four days ago, the bigger percula stopped eating and generally slowed down. It has never done that in the 5 years I've had it. I've checked all parameters and everything is in normal range. The other percula is eating as normal. There are no other visible signs of disease and it doesn't look emaciated yet. It has always been super healthy and has grown to a full 4 inches. I don't have a hospital tank and have never medicated.

Any advice suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

How long do clownfish live? 5 years seems like a long time for a small fish. Perhaps it's old age?

I'm afraid you're bang-on. The average lifespan of a Clownfish is 3-6 years in captivity, with exceptions living up to 10. That's based purely on reading and no experience, however.

The oldest living pair of clownfish in captivity is actually 30 years old- and they were wild-caught, so no-one really knows how old they really are!

Were these clowns from the wild? That's the catch with these kind of things... you never know how old they were when you bought them.
Try what you can to enhance flavor- hatch baby brine shrimp, enhance with garlic, use selcon. You never know, they might still pick up.
Have you added anything new to the tank at all?

I'm not sure I'd put too much faith into what a Geocities page says...lol...does anyone know the official world record, just for fun? I can't seem to find anything.
