It's interesting to find out there are 150 species of freshwater sponges and some can grow as large as a meter in diameter:wideeyed: .
More info here (http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/plants/plantid2/descriptions/bryozoan.html) from the Washington State Department of Ecology.

A picture of a freshwater sponge and some info here at Zoo Lab (http://bioweb.uwlax.edu/zoolab/Table_of_Contents/Lab-3a/Freshwater_Sponges/freshwater_sponges.htm).
