Dates for these things always have a way of sneaking up on us, don't they? Especially, Pam, when you've spent the past week cramming for and writing your exam. Now you get to enjoy the fun 'fishy' stuff... even if you don't have much time to get organized. (I simply can't believe that this coming weekend is May already!:wideeyed: )
Hope eveyone has a good time and finds lots of treasures at the auction.

Oh for Heaven's sake, don't be sorry! If other people had as much to do as you, they'd lose track occasionally too. If only our lives revolved around forums and auctions, hmm? lol Actually, that'd be pretty boring. Thanks for keeping us up on the club's functions Pam, much appreciated!

I only have to work a half day on Friday so will have time to get ready thank goodness. Already started my list of things to take. I am doing chits, so will be busy but hopefully will have some time to spend with Kat and meet some avatars in person. Too bad the lot of you are so far away.

Nope, just add water!:laugh: They are as prolific as cherries. I'll be giving you some of the harder shrimp next year lol. I'm working on a few new species over the summer.

Saying they are prolific at your house does not mean they will be at mine. You have way better luck than I do. Anyway got a 10 with sponge ready for them.

Nope he is staying home, he went a few early on and that's his quota filled. Plus he's headed out into the great blue yonder again on Sunday so it'll be his only day off for quite some time. I have the address in my GPS so as long as its on the map I should be okay. I had some correspondance with Tom & Pat Bridges today about getting seller numbers ahead of time, they seem very nice.

I have heard nothing but high praise and respect for Tom & Pat. They're great breeders and involved club enthusiasts. I've used their photo's in the Livebearers mag and received a very gracious, prompt response when I asked for permission. I hope their club appreciates them - members/leaders like that are treasures!

The auction was a success, a fairly good turn out. Long day, did not have much time to spend with Kat, but did get a couple minutes here and there.
The one thing I know is that when your doing chits, you forget to bid on or miss the stuff you wanted and save a lot of money. I did manage to get some of Kat's spixis, an angel fish, and one female betta. Kat also brought me some of her calico plecos and snowball shrimp.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom & Pat today. We talked for a few moments and they said to say hello you to you Mel. :) They are just as lovely as I imagined they'd be.
I had a great time at St. Kitt's, you have such a nice group of people in your club Pam. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly! It was very refeshing! Pam worked about 99.9% of the auction, I hope they appreciate you too Pam!
I ended up bidding on some more loricaria simillia whiptails to add to my current collection and I also picked up 4 red clawed yabbi crayfish.
What I did not bid on but went home with were a pair of Goo Obo Gundeons & a pair of Nothobranchius rubripinnis killies. Friends of mine bid on the goo obo's for me while I was on a Timmie's run. Bob Wright won a gorgeous pair of nothobranchium rubripinnis killiefish. They are stunning and had that puppy like quality to them that betta's do. Meaning they get all waggly for attention etc. I couldn't stop looking at the killies the entire afternoon and Bob ended up sending me home with them. :) Fishy friends ARE the best!
Now where to put everyone!

Sounds like the auction was a great success. Glad to hear you ladies came home with lots of new additions. We'll be expecting photos all round of course. But we will give you a little time to get all your new creatures settled.
What color is your angel, Pam? and the betta? Can't wait to see them.
Kat, it sounds like you caught the killie bug. As for your crays, I'm off to look those up... but that doesn't let you off the hook posting pics.

You sure have an eye for gorgeous creatures Pam - Wow!

Wow, that was quick, Pam. I'm impressed not only with the speed you got the photos up but with your new additions. Such pretty fish. The angel is pretty close to being all black and that's a gorgeous color on the betta. Any thoughts of getting her a mate and breeding them?... or have you thought that far ahead yet?

I don't think so, just a pet for now on my desk. For a female she is quite pretty.

Jay here's a preview of what they will look like in the future. :err: They will grow to 12-14 inches and I already told hubby no he may not put them on the bbq. lol I've been looking to add some crays to the mix for awhile now.

Their scientific name isn't exactly comforting, Cherax destructor. You'll have to give me one more day on the photo's, I've had an hours sleep and I have another auction 2 hours away & I'll be getting up at 4 to start bagging. :wideeyed:
I also found out a few fishy friends went to the ALA last minute and brought home lots of goodies. Coming to a basement near you, fish raid!

Cool crays, Kat. Destructor? I wonder what was behind that part of the naming. :twitcy: I guess you'll find out in time if there is anything literal to be taken from it.
Best of luck getting organized for tomorrow's auction.

Now Crayfish are something that doesn't interest me at all when it comes to actually keeping them. Icky things.

I'd have to agree with you there. At first glance, I thought she was a short-finned male. I don't think I've ever seen a red female that intensly and fully coloured before.
It makes my mind wander back to one of my standard dream tanks - beautifully aquascaped and full of female Bettas only.... well maybe a few Cory's on the bottom for housekeeping and general cuteness factor. I think it would be most attractive if I allowed a good 5 gallons/female so it isn't too much colour... and I'll have to hire someone who can actually grow plants. ::D:

I was too until I got into the macrobrachiums, which still are a little freaky but I love them. The macro's were all big eyeballs, long antennae & nothing more when I origionally picked them up and were very dare I say cute? lol. Now the are HUGE! I'll have to get some shots, so I figured if I can deal with touching them the cray's won't be so bad. Worse case scenario they become my husbands. He likes the macro's and always points out crayfish in the lfs.

Well he's more than welcome to them...lol...it took me forever just to tolerate Cherry Shrimp. Certainly not their issue though, it's all mine. I know a lot of people really enjoy them.
Don't tell anyone that a fine Maritime girl who should be accustomed to Lobster, gets the heebie jeebies from Crayfish & similar aquatic bugs.

Well, I lost the other angel, but the betta is doing good. She is my little buddy who keeps me company while I am on here. She actually races over to the monitor side of the tank when it changes pics or colours, not sure yet what attracks her. She also sometimes flares at the monitor.

Sorry to hear you lost the angels Pam, but I'm glad to hear the betta is doing well. That's cute that she interacts with the monitor. Maybe with all the colors and color changes on it she thinks there are male bettas in it.

Sometimes I think the whole ordeal is just too much for some of the more nervous species. The Betta sounds like a good friend - that's what I don't like about Bettas, they're easy to get attached to and heartbreaking to say goodbye to.
