This morning, I was treated to bright pink eggs! Only these weren't left by a rabbit.

You guessed it! The 2 Cana's that I rescued are male and female. It turns out the lighter footed one is the male. It didn't come as a complete surprise. They were breeding Monday and the next morning she had managed to escape the tank (a first). I changed the top on the tank so that route was blocked. Last evening, she was on the underside of the glass cover extruding mucous and ? undeveloped eggs. I found that mucousy mass this morning in the tank with 1 pink egg in it. I didn't stay up to watch. I had seen pictures of Cana clutches, but it is amazing how big it is! :err:

I took a picture of them on Monday. They had no privacy, for shame! The white spots are the remains of Nerite eggs.

Are you going to hatch them out??

No, I'm not going to hatch them out. If someone wants them, they are welcome to them. They would have to direct me on what to do, or if interested in a subsequent clutch that would work too.

Why don't you put it up for auction?

The main excuses are -I have never done it before, I have never shipped before, I have never even purchased by auction before - a total newbie. I would hate to screw it up for someone. I'm chicken.

Great pics Gerry, I'm a total auction noob myself, do not let inexperience deter you.
There are many here that will help along the way.

We were all noobs at one time, if you become brave enough some day.... Do not hesitate to ask for help. There are quite of few of us here who have lots of experience that would be willing to lend a hand.

1st of all Congrats... and great pics! Thanks for posting them.

As for the auction, we were all noobs at one time. if you decide to give it a try, we're here to help and if you mess up posting your ad, I'm here to help you fix it if necessary.

As for the shipping part, there are experienced folk around here who would be happy to walk you through what's involved. You could even list the clutch for Pickup Only if you're not prepared to ship yet. Someone local might be interested.

Congrat's! They'll lay lots more for you and I'm happy to hear that you're not so caught up in it that you're hatching yourself into the poorhouse...lol. They're similar in colour to mine and I like the light foot striped version more and more as I watch mine grow.

We're coming into the top breeding season for Applesnails, so everyone keep an eye on their tanks and watch for falling females!

Enough, now! When will she stop? They are incredibly prolific!

In 4 weeks she has laid 10 clutches, including the one she is in the process of laying now.

I can't imagine having them hatch. They would overrun an area quickly if conditions were suitable.

Well don't just sit there - auction them! ::D: Shipping eggs is a great thing to cut your teeth on, although you'd probably need a heatpack still. Nothing is easier than shipping eggs and most don't guarantee hatching anyway.
