hey do i need to have a calcium reactor in a reef tank and if so why any help would be grate thanks

They're used to keep corals happy by maintaining precise alkalinity levels through dissolution, I believe. I'm not a marine enthusiast so I'm sure someone else could give you a more complete answer. I did stumble upon a seemingly thorough intro article (http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+2148&aid=2979) while researching calcium in freshwater aquariums, but I'm not qualified to judge it's level of accuracy.
You'll find lots of DIY plans for them if you do a Google search. I remember seeing several when I searched for general DIY plans.
