Tank Specs
Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallon
Water Parameters (PH/GH/KH): PH: 6-8 DH: 5-25
Temperature: 22-28 CSuitable Tankmates: Most active community fish. Long finned slow moving fishes not highly recommended
Minimum Group Size: 6 or more, the latter being better as the fish generally are more peaceful in larger groups together.
Diet: Will accept almost all commercial and live foods provided it is small enough for them.
Sexing: The male will turn bright red when in spawning condition, also females bellies can be seen to be "plump" with eggs.
Breeding and Reproduction: A fairly easy to breed fish. A tank of 10 gallons can be used with marbles or a spawning grate to save the eggs from being eaten. Some plants such as java moss or spawning mops may also be added to the aquarium. Parents should be introduced in the evening and removed in the afternoon of the next day. Eggs will hatch generally within 48 hours and fry will look like little slivers and hang to the glass and sides of plants, fry become free swimming within another 48 hours generally and can be fed liquid fry food, vinegar eels, rotifers, and after a week can be graduated to larger food such as baby brine shrimp and crushed flake foods.
