I ordered my wife some new skates from a dealer in B.C. She had been telling me all about how good she was when she was little so i found rollergirl. they were an impressive Canadian company. They made sure the sizing was right and sent check up emails to make sure everything was in order. Although it was raining the day they arrived my wife wore them around the house. I was glad that i could find somewhere in canada that i could get them from.

Ahhh... the "Roll- A-Ramma" days...

I recall the unfortunate way I discovered you couldn't stop the same way as ice skates.:twitcy:

Seemed like everything was oversized back then. Bell-bottom jeans (complete with gargantuan comb in hip pocket), big mirrored sunglasses, and those large tubes of "Lip-Smacker" lip-gloss the gals all had... those were the day's!

Great find Viper.

ROFL Whatta memory! I was never very good at it, but there was always some patient boy or another willing to help. I had no idea it was really my lip gloss that he was after!

No but while i was researching them i looked at the derby sites, although shes my tough little chickie she would probably get pummled (shh don't tell her i said that)

Cool skates (and cute little dog... who's probably wondering what those things are on her feet...lol).

OK... time to reeeeeallly date myself. The only kind of roller skates I ever owned were the kind that clamped onto your shoes and you tighted with a roller skate key (everyone wore a roller skate key around their neck so as not to lose it). Now I have worn the type your purchased your wife when my kids were young and I took them rollerskating. It was then that I discovered that although I was sure I'd remember how to skate, and seemed to manage ok, figuring this was a piece of cake, I was soon to discover that the ground was much further down and much harder than I remembered. :twitcy:

A friend of mine has just started. She loved it, and excitedly described it as "you get to play dress up AND hit people!"

Fabulous skates - I hope your wife enjoys them.

Jay, I remember those "clamp-on" skates, and how coming across a small stone would stop you in your tracks.
They still weren't as dangerous as "Super-Slider-Snow-Skates". I can personally vouch for why they were on the market for one season.

Does anyone remember the Melanie (Safka) song, "Brand New Key"?
"I've got a brand new pair of rollerskates, you've got a brand new key"...

If I'm not mistaken Janis Joplin also did a version.

Where's that "old-guy" smilie?

For some reason, I was working around the kitchen singing "You can't rollerskate in a buffallo herd..." when the kid stated "You're nuts." I replied with my usual "This is news?" Then I explained it was really a song, and a famous one at that. He didn't buy it. I made him Google it. The things you people do to me....lol.

"Those were the days, my friend, We thought they'd never end" (Mary Hopkins)

Great reminiscing!

Have we displaced Brand new roller skates, yet Mel?

Yesterday was my last day at work, have 2 months vacation then retired! :red_dance:

These were songs from my teens. I also had roller skates with a key (back in the 50's)! I don't think I'm old, :wideeyed:, bitter , but my memory ::(:. Google is great if you can remember it's there!

I have been planning this for awhile. I have been working toward this with learning about shrimp, aquatic plants, fertilizing and co2, snails, small fish. What I want to do is learn more on aquascaping. Yes, I plan to have lots of time with fishy things. Still lots to learn.

That's a fintastic plan! A lot of people also supplement their retirement income with fish and plant sales, since they theoretically find themselves with time to work at it. I say theoretically because I'm sure my Mother is more busy since she retired than she was when she was working....lol.
