I can't believe it! My female Black Golddust molly gave birth (and she didn't even look pregnant!) I see at least 3 babies tonight in the tank :red_dance: so I'm sure there are more! :D

LOL Livebearers are always pregnant. Grab them out, would be my advice, they're not the best fry to test Gourami on.

Good news after losing your male. Keep an eye on her though. If she didn't look pregnant she may have given birth prematurely due to illness (in the off chance that your male had something).

Congrat's!

Thanks! I netted the 3 I could see & moved them to the fry tank. She looks fine at the moment but will keep a close eye on her. (And also watch for any other fry & move them as well. )

I had a close look at her this morning, she looks like she could be pregnant but she's not very very large... the 3 fry are smaller than the green molly fry were so I'm wondering if a few were born prematurely. Is it possible for that to happen and that she will carry the rest and give birth to them a little later? :FishQuestion:

I've never heard of it but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I'd suspect an infection if there's swelling after birth.

The Green Sailfins have a lot more wild blood in them so they will be larger, but he does outcross so the difference shouldn't be too extreme. As far as I know the Golddust color form was first bred out in P. Sphenops, which are a much smaller fish than the sailfin so maybe that's also effecting the size.

Females should always look much rounder than males so it may mean nothing at all and we're both being paranoid...lol.

I sure hope you're right :wideeyed: I've been checking on her frequently all day (much to the dismay of my extremely shy Gouramis). So far she seems absolutely fine.

Update on 'mama' molly: She still seems to be fine. I think here apparent 'plumpness' might just have been a little constipation. I fed some peas yesterday and she seems less round today. Oh, I know I tend to fret over nothing  but it's because she is my only Black Golddust molly (not counting the few fry)... and I did lose her mate.:swoon:

LOL Well I'm glad she's doing ok. Probably just the Sphenops blood then.
