View Full Version : Mini Chunnel

In my ongoing theme of wonky ideas and hair-brained schemes, I'm considering cutting holes in both the larger section of this pond-

and the side of my 150g stock tub, connecting the two with a large (underground) tube.

I'd use one of those cylindrical drill-bits to do the cutting, and was relieved when taking them out of the ground this weekend weren't brittle.
I'd make sure it is sealed properly, and doesn't have any sharp edges.
Although these were drained last fall, the leaves and snow which gathered over the winter left them filled with a rather rank smelling mess this spring.
<Off to buy car freshener>

Any comments regarding precautions or tips are most welcome.

Being mechanically challenged, I have learned to ask myself this question when I decide to do something wonky, "What are you going to do when it doesn't work?" LOL It may not sound like a back-up plan, but it starts the thought process.

Interesting idea, the picture looks like the one pond is higher than the other.

You'll need a strong pump to keep the one pond full if it is higher than the other.

Other than that, I'd just like to see lots of pictures, I'm thinking of a similar idea for my own pond.

Always have a back-up plan (or 4) as anyone walking a block in my shoes could attest to.

Plan B-
Step 1- Make sizable contribution to the swear jar.
Step 2- Try and patch whatever mess I've created.

Should that fail, (after topping up the jar)...

Plan C-
Consider an above ground swimming pool. I hope it does not come to that, as plan D and E would involve radical ways of paying for C. And that's just too much thinking...lol.

Blaine, that smaller portion was slightly higher, and trickled into the lower part. I've yet to locate the pump from last year, but the "chunnel" will be between the larger part and this tub.-

I'd like to add another small "trickle" tub to that one, and use those smaller area's as a bog type filtration. This should all prove interesting, as I have yet to turn any soil, but I have decided on a spot. (That seemed to be half the battle).

As far as pics go, you guys know me... I can hardly change my mind about something without visual documentation.

If you proceed with this, you do know we'll expect detailed documentation, of course (including pics.) ::D: Turning soil? Forget the shovel, just send Brandy out there to start digging... she'd have a great time.
