I was browsing pond info and came across these islandscapes (http://www.freedomponds.com/garden_islandscape.html) which are used to create a floating island in your pond. Not for the small pond obviously as the smallest size is 27” x 19.5” x 4” but an interesting idea for the larger pond to give variety beyond what's available in the floating plant variety.

"Styroscapes" doesn't quite have the same ring to it though...

I used a styrofoam rock in my pond last year, it was anchored down but would still move around which obviously made it look as fake as it was. One problem I found is that the foam sort of deteriorates and comes off in little floaty bits which I thought could be hazardish for the fish if injested.
Last winter the wind was strong and blew the whole thing out of the pond and it froze in the middle of my driveway.
I think you would be better off using an island made out of wood. You can plant on it, or lay moss on it, lots off possibiltys.
My styro rock sits in the front yard now.

The idea of a wood island is an interesting one. However, I was wondering if it might eventually become waterlogged and sink?

I saw one of these things in a store today. It looks to be made of a material similar to abrasive scrubber pads except less dense. I couldn't tell if there was anything in the middle for extra flotation because I didn't want to open the packaging. It doesn't look like something that would break apart easily. I wonder how you clean it up at the end of the season...
