SalmonChile's Puerto Montt office was intentionally set ablaze, destroying much of the property, according to the Patagonia Times. Anger over layoffs reportedly prompted arsonists to target the industry group. Farmed salmon producers had fired almost 7,500 workers by the end of last year and thousands more have been laid off since then.
I'm not sure what purpose this could possibly serve, but it appears to be anger driven to a point beyond comprehension.
The Comando Autonomo 3 de Mayo took responsibility for the act of arson and expressed dissatisfaction with the heads of sector companies and with personnel layoffs. It called the government an “accomplice” in condoning the layoffs brought about by the current sector crisis. ~ FIS Canada
