Those are some great finds. Your tanks will be more full even if you find your wallet empty after the weekend. Also, very kind of you to shop for a friend. Have you figured out where to put all these new additions?

Cool... and don't forget your trophies. Did they happen to be for any of the livebearer classes?

Any pics of the winning fish? (I know, I'm a pain in the butt  , but I'd love to see them)

Congratulations on both the wins and the new fish. The Livebearer variety sounds like someone copied & pasted our auction list  . We've had a bunch of different species there lately. Nice Rainbows too - we'll be waiting to see them on the auction!

It sounds like you had a good time and made some nice buys. I like the Brachyrhapis roseni that I got at the ALA convention and I have a real warm spot for my Ameca splendens. They are rather common in the hobby but I just love those guys. One day I hope to see some X montezumae when I have room for them at home. It seems that when I see them all of my tanks are fully stocked.

I'm the friend who got the roseni! Life is good. So is Cadafi!
This hobby is something. Cadafi was given the roseni for me from someone he didn't know. It turned out to be a really nice guy I met and had great talks with at a couple of shows several years ago, who remembered how much I liked wild-type livebearers.
He and I had lost touch, but he thought maybe cadafi knew me.

It's a small world... and great for him to have sought your out through Cadafi. The generosity often found among avid fishkeepers amazes me. Enjoy your new additions!

That is just fantastic! Serious enthusiasts really seem to stick together when it comes to these things, but that is still an exceptionally happy coincidence. The stars lined up for you that day  .

My betta took third in the male betta class. I was happy for him as he had flown in from Calgary with me. That's alot for a fish to take!!! Got home with all my fish and had only one casualty and one more wild guppy!! It was a great auction and show!!

One of these days I'll figure out how to post pics(and how to switch the font on my computer, lol). I flew home with some wild guppies, giradinus falcatus, xiphorus alvarezi as well as some different BN plecos and cory napoenis. Also got some different crypts. Awesome prices!!

No worries, we don't get overly concerned about things like that... you did bring home some livebearers, too.
As for posting pictures, the How to Post Photos (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=492) sticky in the Photo section should help. If you still have questions or need further assistance, just holler.

I'm not sure I like how you're looking at her... or the fish bag she's carrying anyway. :wideeyed:

There were lots of great livebearers to be had at the convention for sure, true to form I came home with more catfish & a terrible cold!

Actually it was Richard who got them (Cadafi). Normally I spend hundreds at auctions, but in spite running items at the auction, and lots of money in the wallet I just couldn't pull the trigger all day. I really can't explain why.

I thought without the quote, you were talking to the person who posted just before you. Anyways, I'm glad to hear the convention was fun with or without purchases.

Well, the cold was not a good choice on your part, livebearers would have been much better:wink:... they'd make work for you but no suffering with cold symptoms. :spinny:  Glad to hear you found yourself some more catfish though. Hope the cold is short-lived.

Shawn, I run for much the same reason but sometimes it costs me big time. I get a close look at all of the fish being offered and can't pass up a truly beautiful fish just for the sake of money. I find that I have been close enough at times to bid on things I would normally pass up. A nice looking fish or plant takes on a value to me that the same thing in a shop would never have. I am holding a beautiful example in my own hands and I get the feeling that nobody is going to take it away from me if I can help it. That attitude can get quite expensive.

It's the Swine/Bird/Human/Fish Flu! :wideeyed: It will probably get it's own L-number.

EXACTLY!!!!!
You can always keep an eye as certain things start hitting the chit table and be prepared for it.
I espeically love when the seller lists 4 fish but you can see that there are 5 (or more) so you know the value (ie; $5 for 5 fish) whereas the guy in the seats is thinking no way $5 for 4 fish...

I have trouble beyond the bargain Shawn. I find that the fish in obvious vibrant good health is an almost irresistible temptation. It is sort of like that plant that has an incredibly nice root structure and you just know it would do well in your tank.

I am still kicking myself for not getting some "nezzie" swords. There was a nice pair there but I didn't how many more fish I could cram into my suitcase and what the airline would do if they discovered them, lol!! Next time, I'll bring even more lunch coolers!!!

There's some on the auction and you'd have no problem filling a box from that guy's fishroom! Go check the sofa for money again.

My problem with auctions these days is I go in with the idea that I have to move some fish to make space. Then I see fish that are really cool, but that will fill space. It becomes "I have to make room, I have to try those, I have to make room, I have to try those..."
Aquarium auctions should only be legal when daisies are in bloom. We could all sit there pulling petals off the flowers and using the process to make reasonable decisions... ::(:

Oh no you don't - this is a hobby, logic and reason isn't for things that are supposed to be fun! :NoWay:
Although it is at a point where we all might as well trade and be done with it...lol.

So I took a female marble schenops molly to CAOAC to show. I think she was very intimidated by the black sailfin molly who was best in show as well as suffering from some jet lag(We flew in) and didn't place. Anyhow she made it back safe and sound and has gifted me with fry in the last week. So this fish has travelled back and forth across the country probably while pregnant and her fry all look healthy. Fish never cease to amaze me!!

Glad to hear she made the trip to the convention and back ok. Congrats on the fry... hope you'll post pics of mama and the fry for us to see. She may not have placed at the show but she's a winner in the 'Robust and Resiliant' category. I agree with you, fish can be amazingly tough creatures.

If we didn't ship pregnant fish, we would never ship Livebearer females  . Mollies are prone to premature birth, but it doesn't happen everytime of course. Glad it worked out for her!

How true... mollies are perpetually pregnant. However, because stress can trigger them giving birth prematurely, I try to avoid shipping heavily pregnant fish.
