Looks like 'Phase 3' of the fishroom now under way. Made a deal tonight on 10 40gal tanks, all drilled ! :red_dance:

They're dirty and should be resealed, but they're intact and cheap !

Best part is, there's more there. Got to get the measuring tape out !

It's a new year isn't it ? Or did I just imagine Dec 31.

Congrats Blaine on all those tanks.. that will be one heck of a set-up when all is said and done. I can't wait for the pics to start coming on this phase of fishroom construction.

ROFL Damn shame you're married - that response has Melody written all over it. We're a match made in Heaven.

Actually that's not at all true. I think the fact that opposites attract is an age-old preservation instinct in humans. If we didn't have someone to temper our behaviour, we'd be done for. :wideeyed:

Yup, this is a big project. I think ( don't know for sure ) that they are older tanks. So, to be safe, I'm going to reseal all of them.

Racks to build, all the plumbing, and it's a little cold to work outside, so it all happens in the fishroom.

I'm getting tired thinking about it.

Well, to start out, I have a few species of shrimp and crayfish coming that I'm hoping to breed.

I'm planning to move some of the fish into the larger tanks and use the smaller tanks in my first rack for the inverts.

But, plans being what they are, my luck Melody will bring in a bunch more fish that I'll want

LOL Sorry :secret: next order is early Spring - does that clear things up? I've already reserved the stock of two somewhat famous breeders. The list includes fishies like Limia Vittata, X. Xiphidium, C. Lateralis, Skiffia Multipunctata (sp?) and fancies like Bleeding Heart Platy's from the stock of a famous breeder who had them featured in a magazine, and mentioned since in published articles (in fact, the first Tiger/Zebra Platy's like yours were bred from his Bleeding Heart stock)...

Etc Etc Etc... you know I don't pay shipping for anything less than 'wow'. ;) I'm footing the bill for overnight shipping this time too because the worry with three day and the stress on the fish just isn't worth it. I lose enough fish to pay for overnight shipping anyway, and I'd gladly give someone $20 to stop the worry when I wait for them, so its worth it.

Some of those reservations even cost me some web design - the things I do for fish.

wow.. quite a list.. I will try to make some room on my rack for some fry down the road. I actually had to look up a couple of those to check them out.

That's just the highlights...lol...I only do this a few times/year so I try to make the trip count. I bring in extras for other people which in turn pays for my shipping, so it all works out in the end. I don't even keep all of the species myself. The price tag on some of these fish could be in the clouds since they're not currently bred in Canada (as far as I know), but I'm determined that they will not be a rich person's fish. Preserving the species is more important and most of the best breeders I know are the average working-class Joe. Besides, nobody can be rich in this hobby - they'd keep buying tanks until they were broke  .

Sorry to go into left field. Point being, there's lots of kewl fishies to fill these nice new fishrooms :D .

Edit: By the way, those Xiphidium that you wanted? He says he forgot about them as they're in bottom tanks. Feeds them to his Halfbeaks occasionally:swoon: . I told him to stop that immediately...lol. Funny the difference that a border can make though. Here we are treasuring these fish when we can get them, and they're so easily obtained in the US that they can use the fry as feeders... go figure.

I think my heart just skipped a beat there for a second... wait.. *checks pulse*.. I am fine now.. please do not scare a person like that anytime soon.

:hugs: Sorry about that...lol. He says they've gotta eat too, at which point I wondered if he'd possibly heard of feeding guppies like everyone else?

Here's a couple shots of the new ( to me ) tanks .
They measure 36 inches by 16 inches by 16 inches.
About 40 gallons each.

Now, just a lot of cleaning, resealing and stand building . ;) Nothing to it !

It's Calgary, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

Had a Chinook blow thru last week, 100 kph wind, 10-15 degrees C, TaDa no more snow.

It is chilly today though, I sprayed out the tanks before taking them into the house. They were covered in a thin layer of ice in a couple minutes.

A quick update, time has been a little short lately and the weather not so co operative, I have managed to get 6 tanks cleaned and resealed so far.
One more tank is being turned into a sump and I've decided to use one tank as a water aging tank.

The plan is to build the stands to hold 2 tanks each, 1 on top of the other, so they can be moved or leveled individually. This will also allow for lighter materials in construction. ( I nearly herniated important body parts assembling the fish condo)

I'm going to make some frames for the tops of the tanks to provide extra support to the glass also.

Pictures of construction will follow.

That sounds like a big accomplishment to me, a die-hard planner and seldom do-er.

No owies - we need all of our 2000 parts to be fully functional.
