Amazing! Tough little fish! I'm trying to remember.I'm curious. Didn't you have hets in there last summer? Did you net them out or was that not possible? ... if left, I wonder if they will have survived too (they are such tough, adaptable little fish).
Don't forget to post pictures of the pond in the spring!

there were a bunch of white cloud mountain minnows - i'm not sure if they're still there...i tried to net before the first frost but it was impossible.

Ahh yes, I had forgotten that they were white cloud minnows... losing brain cells with age, I guess...lol.:twitcy: I can see trying to net anything in your pond would be extremely difficult... it's fairly large and lots of hiding places.

Ooo, I'll be hassling you about this question come spring...
Maybe we could assign pond fish "zones" like garden plants :)
Goldfish will overwinter fine here too (Kamloops, zone 5;)) in a pond no bigger than yours and probably shallower, and that's with the pumps and filter off too. Regular ol' comets I believe.
Thx for pics, reminds me of the frozen waterfalls on the side of the highway...

Thought I'd update my last comment. It would seem that this winter has been a little colder for a little longer and the ice stayed on the pond later than usual, the goldfish have kicked the bucket :(

I'm sorry to hear that - stupid freak weather! I guess we can't rely on British California weather all the time. It never rains in California and in never snows here - did somebody not get the memo?
