Sand Gobies - cannibalism of eggs a choice

An interesting study suggests that, when threatened, male sand gobies may weigh the pros and cons or cannibalising the eggs from one batch to obtain nutrients to provide the energy to raise a subsequent batch. Males in poorer condition (and thus possibly having more difficulty attracting a mate) might eat only some of the eggs in an effort to attract females for subsequent spawns.
