I came across this In-tank Refugium (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3621&cmpid=03csesz&ref=3474&subref=AA&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=22-23611814-2). It's an interesting concept to easily add a refugium to your tank with the need for added space for another tank. However, I'm curious as to how practical it is. From what I see, it would consume a fair bit of tank space. Also, I wonder about the suction cup mounting and how well that would hold up over time. Has anyone seen or tried one of these?

They're promoting a system that is open to the rest of the tank, as a quarantine area? Other than that, it's an interesting concept.

Yes the quarantine suggestion is pretty bizarre as we quarantine to prevent the spread of disease. The only thing I could think of is that it could be used to keep an injured (not sick) or otherwise fragile fish or coral, protected from others in the tank (which is really a safe area not a quarantined area.)

I think it presents a neat concept. It is similar to a breeding trap in that it still allows for the tank water to enter and exit, thereby still filtering the "refuge". I think it would work, especially for introducing new fish or even to house some plants that you might not want to have in the rest of the tank - even some place to cultivate some java moss...
Of course, it would work to house some extra corals or live rock if needed, or even some fish that are being picked on perhaps, in a marine set-up...

As QT it defeats the purpose, But other than that it could be useful.

Has anyone tried one yet? I would suspect that after awhile it would be at the bottom of the tank. None of my pumps or heaters ever stay stuck on the glass.

What is UP with that anyways? Mine don't either. Is it too much to ask that they use an appropriate glass sticky thingy? Sheesh! :twitcy:
All jokes aside, it's dangerous when a heater lets go and floats to the surface - one of these days one will explode. Love ya's like you're crazy, but I hope it's one of yours and not one of mine....lol.

Is there a way to use a refugium or breeding net area with moss for a colony of shrimp when you have a cichlid colony like multifascius below it?
I mean...I can see them floating there like kids in an ice cream store staring at their snack. The same could be said about housing fry in there....does a refugium like the one M posted stand up to harassment from other fish?:wideeyed:

I took a look and all I see is a small plexiglass box with holes in it for $40. Am I missing something here?

It comes with it's own powerhead which attaches to one of the holes and provides the refugium with it's own source of water circulation.
