I love your pond this year. Nice variety of plants (puts mine to shame <glancing over at the handful of water lettuce among the duckweed>. I always wanted a water lily for my pond but they cost a fortune at the garden shop and for that reason alone, I'd be guaranteed to kill it.

There are 2 shubunkins and 1 fancy tailed goldfish(he was rescued from a life in a 5 gallon aquarium).
The hyacinth was a splurge, the dwarf something was a cheap auction buy. The lily was a bit of work, the first one hubby went to get was in a foot or more of sludge,:Eeewww: the stuff that just sucks you in. Finally found this one to shore and only a couple of inches of sludge. I would never have gone in to get it, but we got the roots and all. I am going to have to leave it outdoors somewhere for the winter and see if it survives.

Looks great Pam ! I'd be interested to hear how well the lily survives the winter.
I was planning to add a lily or two to my pond, but I'm not sure it's deep enough.

that's very nice, the plants look great, i think your fish will be quite happy. You got me thinking right away today when a friend dropped off a large plastic barrel for me, with a sealable lid, previously used for grape juice.
I set it up in the shade, next to the main pond and I have caught a few of the Koi fry, and a couple tadpoles for now, my intention is to rescue as many Koi fry as possible, as they will not make it through the 1st winter here without some intervention. I have put some water lettuce in there from the pond, yours looks much more greener than mine does, and I will add some filteration soon. I figure when winter comes I can just bring the barrel into the house and nurture the fry through winter.
Enjoy your pond, those are very pretty fish.

I hope they do well for you.
The lily's don't seem to like the little pond, they have closed up. I am thinking there is not enough sun there for them.

Maybe they're adjusting. Looks great Pam!

There is always some shock to plants when they are moved. It'll likely take a while to adjust.

I hope that's all it is.

Here is a totally off-the-wall idea based on pure conjecture from someone who knows virtually nothing about plants. Some terrestrial plants only open in the sunlight. I wonder if the same applies to water lillies (I've never tried to see what they look like after sunset :spinny: ). If this applies to them and they're receiving insufficient light, that could be why they're closed up. Just food for thought.

Maybe, I have never seen them at night so not sure but could be possible.

Most water lillies open in the sunlight and yes they do close up when the sun goes down.

Thanks, Don... so my totally off-the-wall guess wasn't all that far fetched.

From what I have seen in my pond and the other ponds in the area is that the yellow blooming Lilys are done for the year, however the pink ones are still flowering.

It's interesting how some bllom at night and close up during the day & others are just he opposite. OK Pam, time to determine which variety you have.

superb!
What is the lining inside the barrel? I have the barrel to be sawed in 2, pump and all... the lining is what puzzels me. Looks like it is rigid.

It is rigid, a preform liner from Lowes. Works great and houses my gold fish from the bigger pond in the basement for the winter.

Try a garden center. One of our florists has a garden center and saw them there. It was Coles, not sure if you have them in QC
