As an aquarium hobbyist, I know that one should never release foreign fish into a local waterway. Until a few months ago, I had no real perception of the damage that can be done.

A few months ago, I watched a segment on one of those news magazine shows on TV. It was about the Asian Carp and its effects on the Illinois river.

I stumbled across the segment on YouTube this morning while looking for something else.

Although, thankfully, the aquarium trade was not responsible for this particular invasion, this is just one of several foreign species that has been introduced to our water systems.

Thanks for posting the youtube segments. It's amazing how quickly they have advanced upstream and have pretty much taken over the rivers.:wideeyed: It's a real eye-opener as to the potential detrimental impact of invasive species.

Certainly blows that 'but its only a couple of fish, how much harm can it do? It will probably get eaten anyway' theory right out of the water... pun intended. Thanks for posting the links - definitly an eye-opener.

wow.. that is totally insane.. I saw a clip of those jumping fish ages ago, but never thought it was actually somewhere so close to us.
