My community tank of Fundulopanchax oeseri and Xiphophorus helleri is working. The young helleri group is now up to 1.5 inches each, and there are baby oeseri up to half an inch in there. The oeseri parents are at close to full size now, just under 3 inches.
Phase two will be how the oeseri deal with eventual helleri fry, but so far, this pleasant experiment is a success.

Glad to hear it's been working successfully. I imagine Phase II (helleri fry) will either be the oeseri totally ignoring the fry or fat bellied oeseri. Hope it's the former. Keep us posted.

That's great! Eventually we'll have a whole list of combo's that work.

A whole list of combos that work - in a mix of over 300 species... hmmm. I'm trying three - hopefully others will try more, and we can see what happens. I suppose 300 species narrows down when you eliminate all that eat their own fry, but at least so far, there's proof it CAN be done.

I have every confidence that you will complete the list before you go to that great pond in the sky.

I not sure if he will Mel, he is getting old.

The great pond in the sky just dropped on the kids' softball game I was coaching. Those wandering celestial ponds are ruining my summer. I think I could enjoy haunting things, but an eternity of singing "I'm just a little black rain cloud" in Winnie the Pooh's voice, and then ruining ball games is not cool.

I hope the old man can last for a few more years (LOL), as we all need to get the knowledge that this man and his friends have into our hobby first.

When you retire Gary just let us know. This is from one old man who is retired.

Getting to the topic at hand - I have Fundulopanchax Gardneri Akure Albino living in a tank along with Girardinus Falcatus and both are doing just fine and this has been on going for almost a year.

I have my oeseri living with limia vittata and in another tank poliaki, striatum and l. vittata and no issues yet. They have only been together for a short while though.

I suppose instead of teasing I could contribute my limited mixing experience. The only one I remember specific tankmates for was Aphyosemion australe with Brachyrhaphis Holdridgei, domestic Xiphophorus ('Swordtails' & 'Platy's') and Mollies. It doesn't get much more hobby level 'community' than that  , with a twist of wild. I didn't have any issues whatsoever - the Killifish kept to themselves for the most part. B. holdridgei is the most mild mannered Brachy. However, other Brachyrhaphis might not play well with others.

Watch it Pam, I think I have a month or two on my buddy Gary up there!

I'm 53. I look really bad for a 29 year old but I look damn good for a 53 year old.
