The VAHC Monster Auction is this Saturday. Every year that I have gone it has had a huge turnout and quite a diverse selection of items to bid on. It's open to the public (no membership required), so drop by and check it out. There are prize draws too! ::D:
I'll be there (which means I need to get my butt in gear and get stuff I'm taking organized...lol). If you drop by, you ought to be able to find me... I'm the short (ahem... old) guy with glasses wearing a CAC baseball cap.

The Auction is tomorrow (Saturday) and as a seller, I have to be there with my stuff and seller's list no later than 9:30. That means I actually have to get my butt out of bed in the morning.:spinny: :twitcy:
And so, I've got most stuff ready, and fish have finally been netting and placed in holding tubs so I can bag them closer to auction time.
I know I'll forget something... I always do.
Hope to see some of you at the auction. ::D:

There was an excellent turnout at the auction today. Lots of killies (as usual), lots of other fish, some crayfish, equipment, and even coral frags. Some great raffle prizes, too.
I came home for once with a little cash jingling in my pocket as I was outbid on many items. I did bring home some 'red onion nerite snails'... so didn't come home empty handed. They're acclimating at the moment.

It looks like everyone went to the auction today Jay. This is the only post I have seen here at CAC since early this morning.

Sounds like a nice find. No auction for me, just working. Would have rather been there.

Either that or they were all out at craft fairs, etc. doing early Christmas shopping... well except for those who had to work.

Missed this post. Maybe I can spot Jay next time. I was there for a few hours, never been to any of the previous auctions so wasn't sure what to expect. Wasn't planning on buying too much, but I was curious to see what assortment of corys and plants were available. I didn't buy anything, kept on gettig outbid on the few items that I was interested in.
I had a friend there visiting from Ottawa. She managed to buy a donated tank, filters, driftwood...I think she spent over $300. I didn't stay long enough to see the damage she done to her pocketbook, but I think she also won a raffle prize - petting sea turtles at the Vancouver Aquarium. Ironically, she was with a couple of Vancouver Aquarium staff and when they first got there, they were hoping they wouldn't win that prize because "it would be pretty boring".

Sorry I missed you. Other than wandering around checking out the tables, for the most part I was sitting at the back. I too got outbid on a number of things. Congrats to your friend who won the petting the sea turtles at the Vancouver Aquarium. I thought that would be a cool prize... especially for anyone who could bring a kid with them. Visiting from Ottawa? I wonder how she plans to get the tank, etc. back there. Mind you I suppose she could have bought it for someone here. You could always offer to 'store' it for her until she can make arrangements... and of course test it out while you do.:laugh:

Well, she's on a temporary assignment until March and hoping to get the contract extended. So...not sure what would happen if it doesn't get extended and I sure don't have room for anymore tanks.
I thought the auction would have vendors by various stations that can explain fish and/or parts and answer questions. Probably not enough room for the vendors or maybe they would prefer to be anonymous!

Cool idea but I doubt there would be enough room or time.
