I have an out break in my goldfish tank.

I read articles..But doesn't say if it will harm the fish? Seems harmelss??????

I scrubbed down the tank not the ornaments as they don't seem infected? Did a 40% water change.

I had to scrub the filter down.

I don't want to use any chemicals!!!!!!! I just did a session of malachite green. And high temps.

I never had the impression that it's a particular problem - no more so than any other algae. Is it a new setup?

Goldies are terrible piggies, and 40% waterchanges are a good thing - they produce a lot of waste.

If you treated with the malachite to address the diatoms, I would stop - let the tank balance with lots of water changes. You can create a problem by trying to address what you think may be a problem.

It's not an outbreak, it's a bloom. It won't harm your fish, but it could be a sign of unbalanced water quality. Relax, do your water changes and enjoy your new pet diatoms.

I just reread -you scrubbed the filter down? That's probably it there - scrubbing a filter scrubs the beneficial bacteria and makes a tank a inhospitable place for fish. Water changes and patience...
