fishclubgirl's Fish in the toilet??? (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=7444) thread got me thinking. I know she wasn't intentionally using the toilet as temporary lodging for the fish  but...
Those of us who breed fish, and even those who don't but just need to quarantine fish fin the short-term, often find ourselves in the predicament of not having enough tanks and so we must become creative. After all purchasing more tanks would mean being tempted to fill them (and not just for the short-term:rolleyes: ).

In the past, I have used:
ice cream buckets
Tim Horton's muffin mix buckets
Rubbermaid Roughneck Tubs
Sterilite Plastic Tubs
Plastic Garbage can

What containers have you used other than actual tanks?

I have used trash cans
ice chests
styrofoam boxes
tupperware
rubbermaid tubs
old bathtub
big flowerpots

When I'm travelling and picking up fish, I take a plastic thermal lunch box. I let the fish out in it. Then when I fly back, I can pack the fish in it in my suitcase. Mine even has a pocket on the outside and for long flights, I put a heatpack in there. Works excellent for "fish" trips!!!

One of the soft-sided ones? Cool idea. I didn't realize they would actually hold water (guess I never checked).

No, there's ones that are about double that height available at Walmart with harder sides.Put an airstone in it and voila!! Also they're good for club meetings as they have a strap and are much easier to carry than a box. I have used the smaller ones in my suitcase when I bought too many fish though. As if I need more fish!!!

 Needing more fish has nothing to do with actually acquiring more fish... for some reason we addicted hobbyiests make those two situations mutually exclusive in our minds.

Critter keepers, rubbermaid tubs are the only thing I have used I think. Press and seal works great as slush proof lids during travel or for a temporary tank lid.
