I'm still doing a little testing but while you wait, I'll let you know that you'll have multiple chances to win prizes in this 'Treasure Hunt'. Shortly after a prize is won, you will have a chance to search for another. Once it has been found, you'll search for another... and on and on.

Each prize will be reading material to do with the hobby (magazines and books). Some of the prizes will be ones we have already had donated and are waiting in the wings to be won, others (copies of popular fishkeeping magazines) will be provided by CAC.

Some of the prizes to be won are:
Shipping Tips by Mike Hellweg (donated by Mike Hellweg (http://www.minifins.com/))

Actually, not knowing what type of contest this would be, it's kinda fitting it has a treasure hunt theme.

The first time we met, she came running up to me, and plopped a freshly caught mouse at my feet, with tail wagging, she looked up at me for approval. The people who were fostering her out let me take her home for a couple of hours, too see if this was going to work. Within minutes of being in the house, she discovered a chew rope from my previous dog which had fallen behind a couch. (I'm not the most dilligent house-keeper).:rolleyes:

I went back the next day to pick her up, and it didn't take her long to uncover toys buried in the yard that were from a previous owner and had to have been there at least 5 yrs. :smile:

She went through a bit of a destructive chewing phase, but has turned out to be the best companion a person could hope for. :Smile:

This is it!

The CAC Treasure Hunt Contest is about to begin!

Our mascot, Brandy will be sniffing around the forum looking for treasure. If you spot this picture of her (shown in the attachment below), PM me (CACAdmin) with the URL of the thread in which you find it. The first member to PM me will win a prize. (Pictures of Brandy posted in this thread or by anyone else are not considered 'finding Brandy'.)

This will be an ongoing contest, with lots of prizes, with Brandy showing up at random locations and times to give everyone a chance to win a prize. Your best chances will be to pop by often and check the threads.

You'll have to look carefully, as Brandy will show up in any of CACAdmin's (my) posts . It could be a new post or an old one I've edited to add her temporarily.

As in a any treasure hunt, you'll never know what treasure you will find. All 'treasures' will be in numbered envelopes and the winner picks a number and wins that prize.

A little more about the prizes.

We started off with:

January 2010 Special Fish-Only issue of Freshwater and Marine Aquarium Magazine.As I simply mail the numbered envelope corresponding to each winner's choice, I even do not know what member mfda.ca won. :laugh: But I do know this: there are 4 prizes left waiting to be won and all it takes is for someone to be the first to spot Brandy in a post of mine (old or new) as this indicates Brandy has found treasure. :yes:

It's a perk of membership to the American Livebearer Association (http://www.livebearers.org), who are the actual donators. I get extra copies for sitting in an Editor's chair so I share them. Mike Hellweg is also a member of the ALA.

If anyone ever has a registered club event that they would like issues for, I'd be happy to share. The only stipulation is that it be for a certain event and mailed to whomever in the executive is organizing it, whom I'll contact by e-mail first. Sometimes I even have a few different issues on hand, which are great for auction donations. All donations will be officially from the ALA - I don't use them to advertise any of my ventures.

Club publications are awesome :yes: . Since it fits the season, the latest cover is attached as an example of the prize.

I agree Club publications are great! Thanks for providing the ALA info and links and mentioning Mike Hellweg is an ALA member.

Speaking of Mike, anyone not familiar with him can check out the January 2010 copy of TFH magazine (http://www.tfhmagazine.com/). He's participating in a year long fish breeding competition and says he's going to focus on fish he hasn't bred before. It should be interesting to follow. Best of luck, Mike!

The Contest Continues!

An update on prizes as they are ever changing. As prizes are won, envelopes are stuffed with more reading material, sealed and numbered. Then they sit and wait for someone to find Brandy. The first person to find the contest photo of her and PM me then gets to pick an envelope number and wins the prize it contains.

All the original prizes have been won in addition to a few others. Current prizes consist of:

I received the June issue of TFH on Friday and just about died! It is awesome. THis particular magazine can be hard to find in this neck of the woods and it's a bit pricey to subscribe, so this was like a great (early) birthday present! Great articles and awesome photos. Well what do you know... my prize came in today... i got the filter media bags. Exactly what I needed too! When I had to put carbon in my HOB filter, I had to rig a dollar store scrubbing pad folded in two to hold the carbon....not anymore!!!:Smile:

Since we first launced the Treasure Hunt Contest on Nov. 21, 2009, it has run continuously with a short break while we ran our Trick or Treat Contest this year. There have been a total of 37 prizes won to date! ::D: ...with more prizes yet to be won!

Because everyone had so much fun trying to guess the correct number to find a "Treat" in the Trick or Treat Contest, I figured I'd add that as a twist to the Treasure Hunt. Envelope numbers will range from 1-10 inclusive but only some will contain prizes.

So, to keep things fun and interesting around here, we're re-launching the Treasure Hunt Contest as of today "With a Twist". The twist being that to you have to be the first person who finds Brandy and picks an envelope containing a prize (some envelopes are empty).

To participate you must:

send a Private Message Private on the forum to CACAdmin (Administrator) stating the URL OR Title of the thread where the CAC mascot photo is currently posted by CACAdmin (excluding the one(s) posted in threads in the Contests Section of the Forum)
AND

a chose a numbered envelope (# 1 through #10 inclusive)Members are limited to only one guess per 24 hour period.

Example: Your PM to me could read:
Brandy is here: (Title or URL of the thread)
I pick envelope # (whatever number you chose 1-10)

For those of you who are faily new to CAC and not sure how to enter the contest or who for that matter Brandy is and don't really feel like hunting through this very long thread to find out, here's the info.

I know, she's not a fish but this cute little furry friend (actually member Namor's dog) is wearing her own CAC baseball cap and has her own net. (And no, the picture in this post doesn't count as finding her. :nah: ).

To participate in the contest, if you spot her in a post of mine (CACAdmin) you must:
send a Private Message Private on the forum to CACAdmin (Administrator) stating the URL OR Title of the thread where the CAC mascot photo is currently posted by CACAdmin (excluding the one(s) posted in threads in the Contests Section of the Forum)AND
a chose a numbered envelope (# 1 through #10 inclusive)Members are limited to only one guess per 24 hour period.
