Here's an interesting idea someone came up with for keeping inter-tidal species. As there were no further posts, I have no idea if the fellow ever followed through, but the discussion is interesting nonetheless. It would definitely make for an interesting tank.

My husband was in Athens, Georgia and stayed at a B&B where there was a beautiful 'tide pool' aquarium set up. The owner collected the animals in South Carolina where she has relatives. She explained that such a tank is much easier to manage than a reef tank as tide pool animals are adapted to widely varying temperatures and salinities.
I thought this was a really good point, and wonder why such tanks aren't more common. I don't know if cold water BC species would work -- shoreline water in SC can be pretty warm. At any rate, people swim there without wet suits!

That must have been neat to see. I wonder if they had a chiller to emulate winter temps. BTW we do swim here without wetsuits  (in the summer that is  ). Actually, the ocean is often warmer than many of our (glacial-fed) lakes.
Our water temps here in the Burrard Inlet near the surface only get to 20 C (68 F) in the summer and drop as low as 5 C (41 F) or less in the winter (and of course it's even colder when you go deeper). On the other hand, South Carolina water temps ranger from 28.8 C (84 F) in the summer to 8.9 C (48 F) in the winter.
