As the Lobster season opens in the Bay of Fundy, Canadian lobster fishermen are being asked to change the way they set their lobster trap lines to help reduce the risk to North Altantic Right Whales and other sea creatures.
The fishermen ar bing asked "to set their groundlines on the ocean floor to limit floating ropes and protect the whales against one of their two main killers." This "should reduce the amount of fishing line that floats above the ocean floor and ensnares the whales".
It's nice to see that we keep trying to find ways to reduce our impact on the ocean and its creatures while harvesting food from the ocean.
