Common name: Golden Teddy
Scientific name: Xenophallus umbratilis
Family: Poeciliidae
Origin: Central America
Adult size: 2.5 to 3 cm SL
Tank Specs
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallon

Water Parameters (PH/GH/KH): 7.8

Temperature: 25C

Special Requirements: None
Suitable Tankmates: Works well in a single species tank
Minimum Group Size: N/A
Diet: Readily take flake, spirulina flake and frozen foods small enough for them.
Sexing: Typical poeciliid sexing using the gonopodium as the determiner
Breeding and Reproduction: Reproduce readily in a colony situation
Breeding: Frequent feedings of good conditioning foods will give good breeding results. A good cover like java moss will improve fry survival
Notes: I find that these fish reproduce readily in an almost forget them and go back to collect the fry manner. Although my tanks run with hard water and the pH around 7.8, I am not certain that they really need those conditions. They seem to be quite resilient, as are many livebearers.

A single male

A female

A male courting a female and displaying his full fin height. These males display much like any other poeciliid but surprisingly the females also seem to display to each other, maybe it is a dominance thing.
