Could the forum members PLEASE communicate to us people who are willing to put items up on the forum auction, what you really want see in the auction?

Couple of things to remember.:notworthy:

The time of year for shipping items.
The cost of shipping because of Canada Post's way of doing things.
Plus the people who are selling are not going to become millionaires from selling on the forum auction but are trying to help the members.

Great idea!

I think the answer is often 'something for nothing', so please try to be reasonable  . Selling superior, unique products and livestock is not equivalent to a yard sale just because it's at our home.

I often wonder about amounts - would larger lots of something be better so the shipping is more worthwhile, or multi-species?

How about used items, like books? Would that interest anyone? I buy a lot of mine used and just ordered, so that was in my head.

Don't forget to add your items for sale too - the more we work it, the more listings we'll have and the more buyers we'll have. Aquabid didn't build itself - the people got involved and stuck with it until it got moving. Canada is a vast, wide open market and we'd be smart to develop as many Canadian 'depots' as we can.

Thank you!

The first time I had anything shipped was from here ...It was great and now I will be moving its even better to know I can have things shipped .

For me I dont want to ship just 1 or 2 things ,I would rather fill the box and get my shipping worth .
Melody was right larger lots (for me personally)

I dont mind shipping $ for something I really want but would like to fill my box

I am glad to see a few replies to this post but all the replies do not answer the original question that was put forth.

All of the replies are just confirming what the original post claimed.

I would like to see answers to the original question - what is it at the members want to see listed.

I would like to see continued listings of livebearers, more killies and rainbowfish. Some dwarf cichlids would probably stimulate interest, but aren't what I would be seeking personally.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again...

Those of you who regularly ship things should be commended.

I REALLY wish I could have been more involved in auction purchases in the last few months, but as we all know, stuff happens. I've been more than happy with the whole experience in purchasing various items, and for anyone that may be leery about dealing with those willing to share their wares here...
don't be.

Brian,
I've noticed what you have had to offer, and have been biting my lip over those pins.

I'd like to see more books and mags... and although this wouldn't work for livestock, perhaps sending heavier and more bulky items, the bus system might be a more viable option.

Heck... it may even work for smaller packages.

I would like too see more plants, some books and magazines as well as more fish. I personally won't be ordering fish this winter as it is FREAKING COLD in Alberta this winter, but some cichlids would be nice as well as more plecos and livebearers. I'm not really into mollies and killi's so some platys would be great.

Thanks for asking!::D:

Wild type livebearers especially swordtails, wild bettas and rarer plants. And if Santa puts any of these under my tree, he can have all my milk and cookies!!!

PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS... those always grab my attention, it's what I browse the most. :)

But as someone already mentioned, it is REALLY cold in Alberta right now. Once it warms up in the New Year, I will be ordering plants for my newest Tetra aquarium.

Used books is a great idea.

Or a 'grab bag' with assorted little pieces of equipment/randomness (for example, a grab bag could have: "medium fish net, 2x size 123 filters, half a bottle of High pH testing solution, one small piece of live rock, 4x baby Java Ferns and one small clump of Hornwort, one fancy rock about 2inches long, three medium airstones, one small airstone, two valves...") this way, the 'seller' could get rid of a few small items all at once, and the 'buyer' could get some miscellaneous pieces to use. Like a mini fish yard sale in a box. ;)

Different sizes of fish bags.... I like to use the CAC bags but find them too small for some of my lots.

Thanks for supporting CAC by buying the bags with the logo. I might try to do those sometime in the future but not for some time as it requires a huge volume purchase on my part (and my wallet's a little empty these days:rolleyes: ).

I've recently found out the stickers on the CAC bags can be removed, and will adhere quite nicely to other objects.
Be it other bags, tanks, equipment etc., they will also not leave any sticky residue. As a matter of fact, I now have my very own CAC travel mug. ::D:

It actually looks a lot better than the picture shows.

I just trolled through the entire auction as it stands this morning - easily fifty objects or fish species available in a wide range - and not one has been bid on. We need to publicize this excellent resource in our aquarium clubs, etc, as it's discouraging for sellers, who have to spend on shipping supplies before they list, to not even get a nibble.

I got at least one bid on 5 of my last 13-14 lots, and sold 4 of them, so it's not a personal complaint, but it is striking. This site can do a lot for species diversity in the Canadian hobby - talk it up!

Here are some other ways to help:

Use links to promote it see: Auction Linking & Banners (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2695)
You can also add CanadianAquariumAuction.com to your email sig
If you'd like some cards promoting the forum and auction to distribute at your club, PM me.

There really is a lot of great things listed there, and I for one, hope to be in a better position to bid on some items in the next month or two. The quality of all the things I've received via the auction has been top-notch, and as far as livestock goes, getting a pair or small colony of something, only makes the price paid, much more than fair when they start to breed.

With many clubs taking a break over summer, maybe things will soon pick up a little more.
I hope so, and would like to again thank all those I've dealt with over the past couple of years. :notworthy:
