View Full Version : But is anyone buying FISH this week?

I must surely be very self-absorbed, because I'm getting 34 fishies tonight. At least I said no to the Longfinned Albino Plecos! OK, only because they're too small and I tend to kill small BN's, but still!

I didn't plan it to be this close to Christmas though, so it's not my fault. The plan was through someone else who didn't know when.

Do I sound as defensive as I think I do?

Anyways, I'm getting a big bag of albino lyre Mollies and some Long-finned Panda Cory's.

Gary, no comments about them not counting because they're not real fish :twitcy: .

So is anyone else being as self-centered as I am? I see Susan has done some shopping so I feel a little better!

I must conceal my own own excitement from time to time. My son will still not acknowledge my aquatic jungles as 'real' house plants!

Well they're not real houseplants, I agree.

They're BETTER!

I have bought myself a few things, though no new aquatic stuff. I visted the MAC counter at The Bay. Let's just say I could have bought groceries for 2 weeks

:WhoMe:I didn't buy any new fish but there is a new aquatic creature inhabiting one of my tanks. No idea how it appeared there and why my wallet is a little emptier. :Fibbing:

Shall keep you in suspense until I get a picture tonight.

Holy smokes - 34 festive fishes! :notworthy:

If you need the collective forum to make you feel better Mel, I'll try to do my part. But...ummm, I'm expecting fish in March 2010. That's just the way Mother Nature works and probably not what you wanted to hear.

How about Boxing Day/Week - but that's just for hardware stuff only.

No need to justify any fish purchases - think about less money available to buy chocolates.

I was down in the US and supposed to pick up wild bettas. However, they were delayed at the post office and I had to come home, waaah!!! Am hoping that they make it back to their former owner safe and sound!! I do have some other fish that I'm buying locally and some that are coming from BC. I think I'll wait until after xmas on those fish though. Also with the time off, I'll be setting up some spawn tanks too.

I like how you think! We've already traded the family treat fund for the food bank though (stockings exempt), so I'll have to think of something else.

Sounds like everyone has been busy so I don't feel quite so badly now. I think I need to hear about more to completely wipe the guilt though  .

Mel you think thats bad, I am going to be buying more next Wed (2 days before Christmas) also including a very large piece of driftwood that was special ordered for me.

I understand passing on the longfins when they are small. I won't even sell mine till they reach at least 1 1/2 inches. as I want them to survive.

:notworthy: That means I can go to the fish store in the Mall when I shop on Monday! Mastercard thanks you.

I can't even move my own babies from one tank to another without killing them. I've bought them from several breeders and had the same outcome, so I know it's not them. Maybe I need to acclimate them slower. Livebearers have me spoiled in that department, they require very little acclimation as a rule. I sent a little brown baby to a school recently, I'll have to ask if he made it. I figured the kids would get a kick out of the tiny baby. He was about an inch at best.

Well we decided to wait on the Longfin Cory's as they were too new to evaluate their health. Kudos to member 'Mykiss' for making this responsible call rather than dump them on me with a "Well you knew they were just coming in so it's your own fault.":Applaud:

I did get a big bag of pretty Mollies though! I'll get some pictures later....

PICTURES! Why didn't I think of that before? Y'all know how we like to see pictures with shopping reports! Let's call it the official holiday fish shopping thread!

Now you HAVE to buy fish to fit in with the other kids. Your spouse will understand.

Helping us rationalize money spent on fish, eh Melody? A true facilitator, you are.

Usual excuses - the q-tank isn't lit and I didn't want to wipe the glass as it freaks them out, but here's a few of my newbies.

The great surprise is, they're not all lyre Sphenops like I thought! It's a great mix of finnage.

I might work on a strain with Mr. and Mrs. Freckles:

If I do a strain, I'll add some of the fry I got from April for genetic diversity. The rest will go into the 'build it better' strain re-development project going on in the 90G. I'll lose the red-eye but back-cross to establish it again in a stronger fish. These look like good ones to start with - they've been quick to recover from their ordeal and that's always a good sign.

Hi Jackie! Good to see you. Nice to hear you treated yourself to an early fishy Christmas present. That's the best kind.

Melody, I like your idea of a freckled albino strain. Now hurry and get them settled in so they can get work on producing offspring.

Down a long and winding road, I'm seeing a gleaming white albino Sailfin with red freckles. I'm more determined to breed strength into albinos though, so it may or may not happen.

All this Christmas cheer is contagious !

Today on the way home from an Orchid Society meeting I decided to pop into my favorite fish store. There was much of the same stock as always and then something caught my eye when I walked past the thread fin rainbow tank. Females! I left the store with four females and a small male that accidentally made his way into the bag. Something tells me that I am going to want a larger tank for the rainbows some time soon.

I also just caved in an ordered a Coralife luft pump to run all of my sponge filters. Having four separate air pumps running in the same room is more hassle than I want to deal with. Finally a reliable source of air and no more crappy gang valves that don't work, can't wait.
