I have decided after much pondering I really wanted something other then pleco's that I can easily move when I leave ...
So im gonna start up tanks as I got a good deal on discus and I really love them fish.
I had a very bad experiance the last time I baught discus from another hobbiest a while back so I have been just waiting for a better hobbiest to sell some .

I see a lot of people have sponge filters in discus tanks and I really hate them ...is there any reason those are used ? or can I just go with AC or even better eheim...
last time i had AC and eheim and never had any problems .....

I am getting 3 leopard snakeskin,1 red mellon,1 white scorpion,1 turquoise.
I will be sure and get a camera and take some pics when they arrive :-)
I am excited!!

Wonderful! I can't wait to see them. I don't know the fish well enough to help you there, but I'm sure someone does.

I got superbac to cycle .....ill just start up 1 tank tho as im afraid it may not be ready on the 17th wwhen the fish arrive .
The seller is great going to bring 2 sponge filters and lots of water as a just in case this way the fish wont be in any danger .
I have used superbac b4 and sometimes i cycles in 2 weeks and sometimes takes 3 or 4 ..

Once you get the fish in, do large cautious water changes at least twice per week until they settle in and the tank is running, at which point you can drop to weekly. The Discus will be small, so you'll have breathing room.
You will soon be overcrowded, as they grow. 40 gallons for discus isn't great - they are sensitive and in that class of rainforest cichlids I think of as "one per twenty gallon" fish. With the catfish, you are going to have quite a crew in there. Still, you have a lot of time to work it all out.
