This is a huge endeavor to distribute toys, supplies and care packages to less fortunate children that our troops interact with everyday.

Beanies For Baghdad (http://www.beaniesforbaghdad.com/)

Beanie Babies
Stuffed Animals
School Supplies
Frisbees
Balls
Sporting Equipment
Small Cars
Treats
Care packages for troops
Crocheted & knit items (Patterns at www.BevsCountryCottage.com/baby-project.html (http://www.BevsCountryCottage.com/baby-project.html)).

I have no idea why there are so many of these projects in the US but virtually none in Canada. It would be a wonderful thing for someone to organize in their retirement  . We do have a couple of contacts in our knit/crochet group, Caring For Canadians (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caring4canadians/) who will distribute crafted items to our troops and various Canadian charities..

This another very useful organization worth exploring for Canadians - I've worked with some of the people involved in this group and they are incredible. I taught a Bedouin doctor whose plastic surgery skills could have made him wealthy, but who chose instead to reconstruct the faces of bombing and chemical warfare victims so they could resume their lives - quite a man.
They are also independent of the military and of the various governments involved in humanitarian crises in our world.
