Does anyone on here have an Avacado Puffer? I saw one at our local store today. I had never seen them before. Came home, did some research (not a whole bunch of information out there on these fish), went back to the store to get more information from them and ended up bringing one home. I think they are a nice looking fish.

ETA: some photos of the new fish

IIRC, they are a FW puffer but I could be wrong. Make sure to feed snails on a regular basis to keep the teeth worn down. Definitely a cool looking fish!

They can get up to 4 inches. Puff is doing great, love the snails and the mysis. I discovered he or she likes to jump up out of the water at a finger too. Made me jump as I wasn't expecting it

Glad to hear Puff is doing well. I guess your finger looks like it might make a tasty meal. Glad you managed to move out of harms way quickly.

Dandee, how is Puff doing? Are you able to keep up with the demand for snails?

Puff is doing great. Doesn't seem to grow though. I think he is the same size he was when I got him. If they have been stunted at the pet stores from being in too small of a tank, once they are in a larger tank will they grow or always be stunted? He is only about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long and I have kept him in a 30 gallon. From my reading that is a good size aquarium for him but he has never grown. He is fed snails as well as blood worms.

I started a separate tank for breeding snails in. He likes the pond snail more than the ramshorn snails. I have bred some of both but now I'm letting him finish off the ramshorn and just keep breeding the pond snails.

I'm just guessing here but maybe they are very slow growers. Hopefully, some of our puffer keepers can help you out with some info on that regard.
