As I rework my tanks, one goal is to set up a few that are a little less labour-intensive, as in not stocking delicate fish.

I would like to make it a micro-fish tank, just to do something different. The tank itself won't be too small, probably 20G's. I happened upon these little fishies and wondered if anyone had seen them in stores? They've been around for a couple of years but were recently named. I don't look for fish other than Livebearers and Cats as a rule, so I haven't noticed them.

I'm in no rush. I'll just add it to the list and if it isn't local, I'll start watching the international stock lists. I may keep them with Het's, but I need to do more studying before I decide.

I don't know if this is member only content or not, but check it out if you can:

New Danio is one of world's smallest (http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=2517)

Thanks!

What a cool little fish... almost like a miniature leopard with all those spots.

I bet they'd look cool with 'Celestial Pearl Danios'. I haven't a clue how likely it is for Danios to interbreed though, so I'll have to check that out. I doubt I'll put much effort into breeding them but if some show up, I want to be sure they're one or the other.

What a beautiful little gem of a fishy. Yes, they would look just LOVELY with Celestial Pearl Danios... (Hey Jay, where is the "drool" smilie?) Keep an eye out for them Melody and let me know if you find any in Canada. I'll add them to my list of "wanted" as well. That's a great thing about those little guys - they don't take much space but get enough of them and they look very flashy.

I still haven't seen that one in stores or at importers. There were quite a few Boraras species that came in a couple of years ago, but the market seems to have died when hobbyists decided small fish had to have small prices, oblivious to what was involved in getting them in.
These or Boraras would be cool to keep in a larger tank, but they may take some serious looking. The Barb/Rasbora/Bororas/Danio hobby is not a dynamic one right now.
I hope I'm wrong though - it would make me happy if I were.

Awesome little fish!
I really like the spots.
This is great one more fish to keep an eye out for.
These little fish are great, like someone mentioned a large school and
they look quite striking in a well planted tank.
I can hear another tank going up somewhere:yes: .

Well if we're all watching, maybe someone will find them and can distribute from there. If I see it on a wholesale list, I'll post a group buy and we can all get a deal. Maybe we can put a bug in the ear of store owners too. It's difficult for them to decide what will move so I'm sure they'd be happy to know so many are interested.

I'm still wary about mixing Danio species though, I think I'd just have the one species in the tank so I don't have to wonder. Hobby Danios are usually relatively easy to spawn, so an accidental one may occur. Maybe someone will have an answer about that, I'll keep digging.

And it's good to see you Sass! I hope we'll be hearing more from you.

Agreed... now we just have to find some and supply a local breeder who actually gets around to breeding eggers, unlike myself  . I like the idea of having them with Het's. I grow plants better in small tanks so a planted tank of small fish with lotsa light and plants sounds appealing.

Maybe I'll find a small Tetra that isn't obnoxious to throw in there with them. Just a little bit of colour - too much would make the smaller, less brilliantly coloured fish disappear. :EvilPlans: I'm not really into Neons, Cardinals would be too much colour.... hmmm.... Oh, maybe a nice little Rasbora!

I love planning tanks ::D: .
