Breeding for specific color and finnage traits is extremely interesting but always a challenge. After all, first of all the fish have to agree to mate...lol. I have a beautiful Redwag female platy who is obviously fertile (every male in the tank was eager to impregnate her). So I put her and one of those males (red hifin male) in a separate tank in hopes that the two would mate. I'd love to get some Hifin Redwags from her.

However. although I think he is a stunning male (deep red, beautiful finnage) she wants nothing to do with him. (He on the other hand... well, enough said). She simply will not let him near her. Nothing wrong with him. He has fathered many fry for me. .She too has given birth to a number of batches of fry. Obviously, her tastes and mine differ.

I know... too funny for words. To amuse you more, I thought I'd give you an update. They're in a tiny tank so there isn't much room for her to hide from him so she has stopped trying. Now every time he even comes near, she clamps all her fins and if he still doesn't get the message, she turns on him. He then takes off. I think she's made her point. Argh! Females (fishy or human... hard to know what they want:twitcy: ). Guess it's time to find her a new mate.
