Hi everyone. I've been in the pond hobby for just over 27 years. We used to have 14 ponds in our yard where we imported, bred and raised high quality Koi and Goldfish.
Due to a move, we've shut all but four ponds down.
Hubby and I started the Forest City Pond Club about 13 years ago and we have a great group of people on our Executive and Membership.
We will be having our annual Club Auction on May 30, 2010 at the Bloomin Bog in Ilderton and a Bus Trip on June 6, 2010. The London Aquaria Society will be having their spring auction on the 2nd of May, 2010 at the Dorchester Optimist Hall. All are welcome.
One of my passions concerning the pond hobby is water quality. For years we suffered with both hair algae and suspended algae but with the filter we've been making for many years, all of that is in the past and our fish are always happy and healthy.

Hi Lorraine,
I've had a small pond (puddle) since 2000. I upgraded it a couple of years ago in the hopes of keeping Koi and making it more winter friendly (deeper). It's still too small for Koi, but I did add some Wakins last year. I know what you mean about the filter, the first pond had a crappy commercial filter and it was a chore to clean it several times a week. The new pond has a DIY filter (w BD), which is very low maintenance and has reduced the hair algae greatly. I'm going to get the UV installed this year and add a DIY sand & Gravel filter to clear up the water a bit more.
Happy Koi keeping.

Does the Forest City Pond Club have a new website? The link we have in our Club Listing (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=69) ins no longer valid and I'd like to update it.

Koilady....
I've been thinking of looking at landscape design and pond installation as a possible career and I wanted to ask you if there is any relevant schooling I should take to pursue the pond aspect of things?

My goodness, it's wonderful to hear from everyone.
Hey Mulm. We've made our bio-filters for many years and if your filter is made large enough for the size of your pond and the amount of fish you have, you won't need barley straw or u.v. sterilizers. Not only that but, my bio-media never gets dirty so I never have to clean it. I have the scrubbies in predator netting so, once a month or every six weeks I remove the scrubbies inside the predator netting, put them into the pond and pump it out to water my gardens then replace the scrubbies and off we go. I've got a great diagram of your interested.
Hey Admin. The Forest City Pond Club is in the process of putting together a new website. I'll let you know. Thanks for making me feel welcome here.
Hi Noctame, I've been a Watergarden Consultant for many years and I've gotten my experience through trial and error due to the fact that here in Canada we had no information on how to keep ponds balanced and the fish healthy. We joined a number of clubs in the United States and met many people who helped us solve some of our many troubles.
I wish I could tell you where you could go to learn about landscaping but I really don't know. Let me know what you find out and I'll see what I can find out here.

Ms. Noctame, you could send a private message to member Soggybottom. He recently took the required courses and I remember him mentioning ponds being involved.
