I just got back from vacation and noticed I have some mystery snail eggs. Can anyone give me some info on the best way to hatch them? I don't think they were there yesterday morning so sometime between then and this morning is when they appeared. Thanks!

The best way for me is the baggie method. Dampen a paper towel with tank water and roll clutch inside then place in baggie and close let float in tank using tank lid to hold in place. Open frequently to add fresh air and in a few weeks you should have little ones.

Awesome sounds simple enough! Thank you!

You can read all about my adventures with hatching here (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129). Congrat's! Do you know what colour the parents are? :GEEK:

One is blackish and they other is whitish.

Then you will probably see blackish, whiteish, chestnutish, goldish, blueish and jadeish offspring. ::D: Neat trick huh? LOL Best of luck with them! Don't forget to post when they hatch, and I love hatchling pictures. Flash shots will often pop the colours out so you can see what colour they'll be.

Thanks! I'm interested in seeing the little ones too! Can they be added to the tank when they hatch? I think I should start digging out my assassins since the snail population is getting low. I know there are probably thousands still in the gravel but just incase. I haven't seen a snail in there for awhle now.

The Assassins will attack adult Applesnails when they run out of easier prey, and make short work of babies. :wideeyed:

I usually keep my hatchlings in a container or small tank for the first few weeks. It increases the survival rate, probably because it's easier for them to find food. Others don't do that though and they seem to have survivors, so it's just an option.

Thanks Melody! I sure hope I can keep up with with caring for them until they hatch! This is the first time my water level has been so low so if I find anymore clutches I'll just leave them and see what happens.
