Hi, What is the difference between wag tail platy and mickey mouse platy?

The Mickey Mouse Platy has the silhouette of a Mickey Mouse above the tail, technically their markings are referred to as 'Moon Complete'. Wags have black fins with the body being another color, such as red, orange or gold.

They're awesome aren't they? They've been around here, usually in mixed shipments. The Mickey Mouse in the above pic is white based but obviously has orange mixed in. I think they were bred out from Bleeding Heart Platy's but don't quote me on that. I have bleeding hearts coming in this Spring that are from the stock featured in TFH mag - Darrell Mefford's stock. I didn't even care for the Bleeding Hearts until I saw those. He is one talented & dedicated breeder, and it was all done on a very small scale - amazing.

I'll grab some whites if someone happens to have them when I'm ordering or I'll let you know if I see someone selling them.

PS: That sig quote of yours rocks!

Whites? OK, another target to go for. Problem is I can probably only at this point achieve silver (at start at least)... I have no 'white base' platys.

Yeah but I only need females for the Plumetail line so if I find them in pairs, I give you the males.....lol. Besides, I like your silvers. Wonder where they came from? I keep thinking that Plumetail male of yours could throw them.

Hi, Thank you Melody. The pics make it so obvious,da. It turns out I have blue mickey mouse platys and sunburst wag platys. I also have some all red ones. I have never had platys before so it will be interesting to see what colours they throw.

I didn't know Charles had them - as long as he has them in stock I'll grab them next order - he's another awesome breeder.

Save up a lot - prices look good until you figure in exchange and well over a hundred dollars in overnight shipping, box & heatpack charges, packing charges, plus I have to compensate my driver ...

Buy a bigger piggy bank....lol.

Remember when I said I don't make a dime off the fish I bring in? Figure in shipment losses of at least 10% and I'm lucky if my shipping gets paid for.

You're probably right, he's the only adult who has silver. I have one silver mickey mouse male about 2 months old and a bunch of slightly younger silver spotted ones (males & females). I have a feeling he is the offsping of a pairing on the plumetail and my Sunset Mickey Mouse female. I plan on keeping him as a breeder so we'll see what I can achieve. Ms Fishykisses, if I get anything close to what you're looking for I'll let you know.

Ms JP., you'll love breeding platys... I started out letting nature take it's course but now am going to try to fine tune my breeding program (not easy with limited space) but the wide variety of color possibilities if fascinating.

I have some that are very similar to those, white body with an orange crest on top.
They were listed at my LFS as Peppermint Platys !

There's one or two fry in the now as well :red_dance:

I forgot about those! They have much the same coloring as some of my Mickey Mouse Plumetails, but in a flash mine have too much orange even in the body, to be considered good whites.

Connie, you can also call up some of your local stores and see if you can either order them in or have them contact you when they see some in a mix.

Know what you need? You need those small tanks of mine. They've been awesome for selective breeding, brooders, etc, I just ended up with too many after finding some 5G tanks. Yes I know, space - the final frontier, but any ol' shelf can hold the little tanks - that's the beauty of them. Get one of those tall, narrow space-saver shelves. I think you have room right over there. No, not there, THERE.

unless, of course I give up sleeping, and replace my bed with a shelving unit... which is also my couch... so I guess I give that up too. :nah: .

I can sell tanks for $20, but girls who allow men to pick them up for $20 get a bad reputation.:wideeyed:
