A couple pictures of the male or males... Can't tell them apart...

And I thought this was a male cause of egg spots on her fin... But was I wrong :) Here is a picture of her holding eggs...

All pictures are taken without flash but only a 50.50 48" T5 light on top of the tank. Thanks for looking.

Wow! Those fish are so gorgeous! I never see such nice cichlids in the fish stores. Thanks so much for sharing :)

Ask the stores for them - they have lists a mile long to choose from so I'm sure they'd appreciate suggestions.

Not like the store is going to bring this in... They have the common maswa, , sp red, bemba, cherry spots, and Ikola, but that is about all I have seen in tropheus...

Ya never know until you try. You're going to spawn them?

I am trying... one female is holding as the third picture shown. But they don't have a large spawn size; usually 6-12 babies at a time...

There's no way to nutritionally increase egg production or is that just a species trait? Makes them more valuable but its a lengthy process for a breeder.

it is how they are... but they mature fast... I have this group at 1.25" for 6 months and they are at 2.5" and starting to breed. I would assume it will take 1 year in total from egg to mature...

The species that mature quickly don't require large broods to have a fully productive spawning life - nature has all sorts of tricks like that  . Species that mature quickly should be fed more heavily as growing fry/Juvies though, including lots of growth nutrients, not just protein. Those that promote healthy bone structure would be second only to protein, in my opinion (namely Vitamins A, C & D3).

except tropheus can't get high protein diet cause they are strictly veggie-eater... Overfeeding them or high protein diet will give them bloat and that is very bad for them.

Vegetable protein  .
