Time to make some lids for my tanks.
Any suggestions for places to get some cheap cheap glass from? I will do my own glass cutting, so looking for pieces that may have been broken and thrown out, or somewhere that sells it cheap.

Check glass shops, the kind that fix broken windows, etc. They usually have a scrap pile. They'll often cut it up for you for a small price per cut, especially if they aren't busy.
Companies that install new windows sometimes haul away the customer's old windows, so they might give you some or tell you where they're working so you can pick some up.
I often see windows set out for garbage collection, so have a look around before pickup time.

acryllic is ok. But it always seems to get scratched up, sags and other problems. Mind you, I have only ever used the really cheap stuff. I am sure there is better stuff on the market now
whatchu got?

I work at a plastics supplier. Right now, I have 3/16" only(free) which is okay on smaller tanks but can sell you 4' x 8' any thickness you'd like. It would be the "cast" plexi which is easier to cut.

I'd take some 3/16 for free! That should be a reasonable thickness for lids.
sent you a pm

If you don't need pretty, I have a bunch of glass of various sizes ( smaller pieces ) you're welcome to, if you want/need them.

How small is small? I am looking for pieces big enough to cut lids out of it. So 12 by 20 or so would be fine. pieces that size. actually, even a few smaller pieces for 10 gallon tank lids.
They are going to be for tank lids so they don't have to be pretty. I can cut them to size and shape that I need.

Now I kind of like your acrylic top idea Blaine, after looking at your fishroom pics.
How much is one of the covers? and where do you get them?

Home Depot, Rona type stores, usually under $10.00 per 2 foot by 4 foot sheet.
