Hello
My brigs are having ummm lots of fun. Ive dropped the water lvl in the tank. How long after them having fun should they lay a clutch. My jade male and Ivory male have both been seen riding a female Ivory. Does that mean ill have some babies from both possible fathers or just one. Very exciting.

They can start breeding when they're around the size of a quarter. There can be much breeding activity with no clutches, or they can start laying within a couple of days. Males will always try, but the female has to be ready for it to work. Clutches can have multipile paternity, although mine most often appear to have been fathered by one male.

Now off to research best way to care for eggs and lil baby brigs.
I should be ok with finding homes for the babies. I have 15 tanks, a few friends want some and 2 lps will take some, as well as Ill offer some up for grabs on different forums.

Melody has written a good description of how to hatch the eggs elsewhere on this site, either as a sticky in the Invertebrates section or in the Articles section.
The important thing is that they are out of the water, but in an extremely humid environment. I hatched some by leaving them in place in a well-covered tank, and some others I rested on a lump of java moss sitting in a little water in an almost closed deli container.
Don't be too worried about moving the clutch. It looks delicate and foamy, but it's surprisingly hard and will snap right off the glass with a little pressure. Btw, the eggs will hatch over a period of days to weeks. I think the eggs in the center of the clutch may develop more slowly.

I have followed those instructions I thought , for a long time .....
Couldnt understand why I wasnt getting any babys ????
It wasnt untill I picked up snails from a member here did I realize what I was doing wrong !!!!
Not enough water in baggie ....
Top of the tank where they are laid is too risky, the lights on IF you have plants and need lighting ,you can pretty much say goodbye ....
The key is although they need air they should be at least damp ...at all times .

Here's the sticky on Hatching Applesnail Clutches (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129). Hope it helps. Let us know what method you use and if you get the clutch to hatch successfully.

That's awesome, good for you!
One thing I've found is that what works for one person may not work for the other person, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't work out the first time. Good luck!

thank you everyone
atm i have the clutch wrapped in damp paper towel on my speaker tower. The next clutch ill try Melodies second method. Ill see what works for me. Though i know the the first couple of clutches my be infertile. Im doin a practise run for myself. I got shrimp pellets and algae wafers and will have an empty 5 gallon for the lil guys to start out in. I also got some cutttle bone and pure calcuim carbonate pills that i can add to the tank for extra calcuim. Otherr then that ill feed some fresh veggies to them. Am i missing anything else? Any advice is good.

Great start .... I am finding the pellets make a big mess as it dont seem they eat them ..
just my observation ...
if you have melodys food or the shirka shrimp food that would be better as it dont fall apart like the shrimp pellets .
I also use prure spurlina powder .
make sure your paper towel is pretty wet .... dont wet it and ring it out ... it should be a bit drippy ....
this was my mistake ringing out the paper towel lol
dont be surprised if you get a moldy smell after a while ... I put 6 clutches in baggies and in a drawer and one week later they all hatched ..
very good luck!

I supplement the water with liquid aragonite, along with tufa rock in the tank and oyster shell in the filter. Add all of these measures slowly and keep an eye on the parameters.
Snails love seaweed, krill (and other freeze-dried food) & Dainichi Cichlid food as well.:yes:They also dig frozen fish foods, especially brine shrimp. Babies don't eat a whole lot at first.

Well first clutch was fail. But second clutch..from what i can count seems like i have about 20-25 of little baby snails. The second clutch i left in the tank and kept wetting it with a paper towel. I have them in a breeder trap at the moment. I looked at the clutch and saw a litlle something on it and looked closer and saw a little baby snail. so i put it in a container and floated it in the tank and kept swishing the babies into the breeder trap. A few might have made it into the tank beforei realized what was happening. Hopefully they find enough food. I have 1 more clutch that should hatch sept 23-25 I think but its a very small clutch. This amount i can home either here, sons friends, nephew, neice, sister, and work mates. Actually would be good if i got more lol.

Congrats, sunshine. Not all of the little'uns survive but most do. However, once the females start laying clutches you're quite likely to get more. I find they go in spurts.
