Just wondering who celebrates Chinese New Year (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2007-2-18&e=24&c=1) and how they do it. Its such a fun & interesting cultural event that many celebrate some or part of it regardless of their heritage  .
Good time of year to grab some 'Lucky Bamboo' - if I'm not mistaken, its a big seller this time of year.

What we do is have dinner new years eve, which is today, and tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. My family eats at home, and certain things we eat are dried oysters, and some kind of turnip, steamed chicken, abalone, and your suppose to eat this type of food that look like brown hair called fat choy.
We eat some of those thigns b/c in chinese the names of the food sound very much like phrases that mean good luck, or wealth.
Like dried oysters are ho see in chinese, and also sound like "good things" in chinese.
the hairy food we eat is called fat choy , which also sounds like "wealth".
On our table, we have also have dried fish and chinese sausage which we leave on the table without eating tillt he last day (monday). I"m not sure why we dont eat it till the last day though. Your also suppose to have all your rice buckets filled.
Lastly, on Sunday your suppose to shower and wash your hair b/c you can't do it monday b/c you dont want to shower on Monday and wash all your luck away.
If your married your also suppose to give red pockets with money in it for all the ppl younger than you :)
Thats all i know!

LOL We can be so bitter about our childhood. The bank gave them out once, don't know if they do it every year. They gave one to my Son. I still have it somewhere.
