View Full Version : Can someone explain how this happened?

I'm cleaning out the 'Quarantine' tank before I go on vacation, as it's the most overstocked.

So I moved four Cory's to the small jungle in the office, which is empty except for a 'few' Pink/Gold Apples and maybe an Oto or two.

I moved the 'few' Blue Apples to the Snail 'bucket' in the basement.

I moved a 'few' ABNs and some Cherry Shrimp I found to the big Jungle in the Basement. BUT, I see something tiny swimming around in the Sword plant, which I hoped was some baby Ghost Shrimp. No such luck, it's an ABN fry, so I look closer only to see a bunch more. Of course I'm already worried about adding the 10 I found in the Quarantine tank to the existing three adults. :-)

Can someone explain how this happened? I mean these three adults have been in there for quite a few months and have never shown any interest in each other. Plus there are a ton of Tetras, a few Danios and numerous Snails to munch on Fry/eggs. I think I'll start a fish farm, the little buggers breed when I least expect it.

Endlers got left behind to do what Endlers do best BTW. They harrass the Snails so I did not move them.

Note: A 'few' means at least 10 and any self respecting 'bucket' is at least 50 gallons. :-)

bristlenoses taste bad?

all kidding aside, they have barbs which help them get away when something tries to eat it. When that something has a few encounters and fails or gets a spike in the face, im sure it learns not to go after abn fry anymore?

I find that my albinos are less obvious about 'caving'; it's hard for me to tell when they have eggs. the young also seem to stay close to the cave/dad for a longer period of time than my other types. then there are those 'frog-stickers' Vince mentioned!

then there are those 'frog-stickers' Vince mentioned! Yes, I can attest to how sharp they are. I was on the receiving end when rescuing a BN from a sump where a net would not fit. After attempt #1, I put on gloves.

^^^I've never met anyone before who has been stuck by those things. they look wicked. I personally don't like to handle fish, so my fingers never get that close:-)
