I tried to do normal thanksgiving monday stuff, even if we had the feast yesterday. I cleaned, I did yard work, and then I decided to watch the CFL.
I can't stand football. First my mind wandered, and then my eyes. Right beside the TV, my Benitochromis conjunctus were courting, and the camera was on the table.

The CFL's loss in viewership may (I hope) be the CAC's gain, as I think these Cameroon mouthbrooders are nice fish:

I'm not a football fan either, Gary so I'm with you when it comes to being easily distracted by the fish... and courtship is a good thing. Hopefully, it's a successful courtship.

According to Lamboj, these guys are biparental mouthbrooders and switch off who gets to carry the eggs and fry several times a day. I think this sounds more interesting than most TV. Let us know what happens.

My tv watching of all kinds came to an end when I got back into aquariums. I'm down to one show on sunday mornings (yeahhh CBC) Great pics, Gary, thanks.

I've seen Satanoperca switch back and forth between parents, and it is beyond neat.
I know the conjunctus have spawned in a community so I moved my consistent pair to their own tank to try. Life being what it is, it's not that pair courting, but that will come. I did the old 'buy six and try for a pair', and got three pairs out of it.
For me, as someone fascinated by West African fishes, the Lamboj book is my bible. It's too bad there isn't a similar work for killies and livebearers.

:secret: I think Gary's upset with the fact his Canadiens are no longer the only sports team with a commemorative Loonie. :BOLTS:

Are the commemorative loonies common? I expect to be traveling in Canada next year and would welcome one with the Canadiens on it. I expect to enter Canada around the Detroit/Windsor border point and go east through Quebec and up all the way to Nova Scotia and see the Fundy bay tides. The last time I was out that way was when I was living in Canada and was about 12 years old, 50 years ago.

I've never seen the sports commemorative loonies - heard of them, but not seen them.

I don't recall seeing them either, but I got a 2010 Navy/Marine Commemorative one in my change at the store the other day.

The Navy one is quite nice, I've seen them all in circulation other than the "Lucky Loonie".

-Go figure. :twitcy:

My fave is Terry Fox. -Most likely the only non-governmental Canadian individual that will ever be minted.

Although I recently saw a alternate image of the Loon, I had no idea a half dozen other birds also fell under the classification as "Minted Loonies".

I'll vouch for the snowy owl being a little "off" though. -More on that elsewhere.

btw Gary, those are great pics.

With the Canadiens coin only circulated by one chain of stores in Quebec, my guess is I will never see one in my change. I see they have issued lots of other commemorative loonies though, so maybe I'll see one of those during my time in Canada.

There are lots and lots of commemorative quarters. Many different kinds have been issued over the past 20 years or so including the one with the red poppy on it that got a couple of NSA agents cutting through Canada paranoid that someone had slipped them some kind of bug in their change.

So check the quarters, too, Some of them are quite interesting or even pretty.

Lo and behold, today at the school caf I bought a sandwich, and got a canadiens loonie in change. If I collected money rather than spent it, I'd be all excited, but it won't last in this house. So Old Man, if you're into coins, I can mail it to you. Just PM me an address.
